Would have been a world champ if he hadnt been struck by tragedy. Terrible shame.

Was round my (then) girlfriend's house for a family party and spent the evening on my own watching the McClellan epic while the rest of the house were eating, drinking and talking in the other room - she didn't speak to me for the rest of the weekend - and she was totty :yep

More than that. He looked sensational in that Eubank No. 2. fight. He was really crisp, hard angled punches and tight combination punches with an immense pace.. while remaining tucked and technical. He was brilliant that night. Hard to see him beaten on that form!

He (Watson) also seemed to walk through Eubank's best shots when Eubank did get off and get through. That was Eubank at his very best as well, IMO. Immensely focussed that night, Watson. Looked almost unbeatable.

Remember Nigel against Watson? Swinging from all angles. Some might say Benn was **** that night. I think he looked bloody awesome! Watson needed to be all tucked like that, he was in with a crazy mother who was teeing off like nothing in the sport (including Michael Gerard Tyson), non-stop.

follwed nigel from when he fought at wisbech(16 second ko including 10 count) and
i was ringside for the watson fight and never went to another scrap so i didnt jinx him(i know i know, he was outclassed).
as a fighter benn trained for fights as hard as anyone(the man would run up mountains), was a gambler and an entertainer by going at his oppo from the beginning and was honest to his fans cos he always gave everything.
just listen to the crowd after the barkley fight and its either travelling support on a grand scale, he'd won the hometown fans over or both.
my top five fighters are ALI,HAGLER,HEARNS,TYSON and BENN......good company nige

Agreed, I actually fought he looked immense in that fight.

If that was Eubank at his best we have to say Watson was better because he outboxed him in that fight.

If you wanna see a good fight with Benn outboxing his opponent before going in for the kill watch the Robbie Sims fight. Sims was a very good fighter and I think it was one of Benn's best performances, up there with McClellan and Barkley. Very underrated performance, I'd recommend it to any Benn fan who hasnt seen it. Heres a link:

Benn actually looked really good in the early going and I have to say Watson did well not to get knocked out. People say Benn was knocked out with a jab in that fight. It wasnt a jab, it was exhaustion. Good work from Watson though.

One of the greatest threads ever. I applaud this thread. Nigel Benn v Gerald McCllelan is still the most exhalirating fight ive ever watched.

Thank you I'm still pleased I made it and I'm still a bit pissed :drink. Benn-McCllelan was indeed a classic, if McClellan had been uninjured I feel Benn would be held in higher esteem now. No offence to McClellan of course who played his part in a classic. I could watch that fight again and again.

Nigel Benn is a legend, but you cannot mention his name without Chris Euabnk or Michael Watson...

They all made each other...and a great era.

Nigel Benn's early career was as davastating and destructive as Mike Tysons..!

Such a interesting charactor, had mental issues/demons..

But thats what made him the fighter he was..!!!

    Great man too...

Yeah he knocked out Robbie Sims for the first time in his career. What a tough fight to take after such a tough loss! The man was one of a kind.
