Tigers Woods having the chance of getting an Olympic gold from 2016 onwards is good news for him, but as a doller billionaire he is far removed from amataur status as you can get. Why not include professional fighter alongside the unpaid colleagues in 2 parallel tournaments
Pros have been in the Olympics for years - the IOC just makes decisions based on if they think it'll be positive for their profile. It's hypocritical to exclude pro boxers, but they would box under amateur rules, there'd be no doubt about that. Olympics would never touch pro rules. I doubt many top pros would participate (injury risk, risk of an embarrassing defeat).
Having two types of boxing would be redundant. Either/or. That said, they do unnecessarily have two forms of volleyball. :think
We (of the United States) have ****ed up the Olympics by allowing our professional athletes to perform. Just because we were pissed off that we lost basketball to the Russians it became paramount to save the sport that we founded. We were just fine when allowing only college players to take place, but that wasn't good enuff. So we put our pro BB players in and win games by 50-60 points. Oh boy, isn't that in the spriit of the games. It doesn't matter that other countries use professionals, our country is the leader, we set the tone. I think its time we go back to amateur atheletes to perform in the Olympics. We already know what our pros can do.
