I think we can assume that he wasn't on form that night, considering he ended up deaf, blind and partially lame from a ring beating that was intense, but not that intense. Froch isn't half the fighter Benn was, anyway; Benn could box and had the speed to potshot and move. Froch just stands in front and leaps in occasionally.

There had been signs for at least a year, probably longer, that this sort of thing was going to happen to Gerald if he kept fighting, if it didn't happen against Benn it would have happened against somebody else.

In G-Mans only fight at 168 he was already on the way to a brain injury. Steward had dumped him.

Froch has a superhuman chin, but even that will not be enough to absorb G-Man's blows. What he has, like Benn, is an iron will. He also has an awakward style and I think he takes the badly overrated (even compared to Froch) mcCllellan out, around the 10th. G-Man would start blinking again you see.............

    Yes, I agree.

Benn or Froch would be a more reasonable comparison. McClellan is so overrated it isn't even funny.

Oh yeah, just like he was going to ass whoop Nigel Benn. Benn was too tough for McClellan who had no response when an opponent actually fought back after being hurt. And Froch would have beaten Benn at 168

carl froch got knocked down by jermaine taylor
mcclellan never came close to going on a knee fighting julian jackson

a froch loving to block with his face would take a huge beating, no doubt he would'nt make it past round 4 as mclellan went for the knockout whether you were hurt or not

What? I know you're a big Froch fan but you're taking the **** here surely? Whilst I agree they are very similar fighters Benn does everything better than Froch except take a punch. Benn would batter him to an accumulation stoppage in around 8 or 9 rounds.

Hardly. McClellan would enter the ring at 180+ and remain chiseled.

    Froch walks around at 168.

McClellan's power and accuracy was unbelievable. Knocked down slippery, titanium-chinned Sanderline Williams for the only time in Sanderline's career. He had loose shoulders and fast rangey punches with extremely heavy hands. Hit Julian with everything in that short demolition, bang-on from the off-set.

He also had 10-12 clean knockouts through a left hook to the body. He'd snap it in in a sneaky manner, wouldn't throw it unless he knew it would be pin-point and take the guy down, buckle him or leave him rolling.

Also study Gerald's feet, the way he positions himself before throwing the big right, the way he moves into position. It was truly beyond world-class. Shame his career ended so prematurely, he'd have gone through the weights.

Couldn't believe it when Nigel Benn was out of the ring in about 30 seconds.
