Is JuanMa overrated or is Mtagwa underrated?

JuanMa's stock is UP from this fight...he's a warrior.

Mtagwa isn't human...he's a straight up a relentless savage and Juanma Lopez ignored his techinical skills and just surived the fight like a warrior.

Lopez went toe to toe with this guy and land 100 more shots...even at the 12th when Lopez was "running", he still came foward with his hands low and had an outburst of punches in the last minute....very impressive.

You would figure a guy like Lopez would get scared...this was a learning experience and Lopez will definitely improve from this.


Lopez needs to work on his countering, footwork, utilization of uppercut punching, jabbing and most importantly, CLINCHING...

Lopez has to be the worst clincher in boxing.

This fight could of been over if Lopez failed some clinches....he was eating a lot of shots trying to clinch...strong chin, but has anyone seen Lopez look this slow?

Stamina wise, you would of figured Mtagwa was the 26 year old and Lopez was the 31 year old.

I disagree strongly that JuanMa's stock is up after this fight.

He's a champion. No longer a prospect. Kid has since arrived on the world stage. He had no business struggling this bad with a borderline journeyman...

I'm a Juanma fan, but I'm worried about his ability to take on the p4p best.

 

I can't believe Mtwagwa is Getting all these props NOW!!! Months prior to this fight...All the Juanma fans were all saying that Same S.H.I.T.

"Mtwagwa is going to get KTFO...a quick tune up before Caballero or Gamboa"

Now after he (Juanma) got exposed....The tune has changed...."Wow, Mtwagwa is tough, He is a warrior, Underrated...Blah Blah Blah"

Gamboa (just like everyone else) saw Flaw after Flaw after Flaw from Juanma.

I guarantee you....He called his management team directly after the fight and said:
"Mira, No permita que Juanma deje este Arena sin firmar el contrato para pelear conmigo!!!"

Along with the other TOP-SHELF, ELITE-LEVEL fighters from 122lbs -130lbs.
They are dying for a chance to fight Juanma now!!!!!

 

i think juanma was preoccupied with pelechin. i really think caballero's video antics got in his head and he wasn't focused. gamboa is a monster.

 

I haved said this for like his last 3 fights, Juanma is way overrated hes not what people said of him. I wish he could be better but i hope this fight open the eyes for many of my Boricua people

 

i can't believe some fans are saying juanma lopez is overrated because he had a difficult time with mtagwa. listen, mtagwa may be a journeyman but he's a tough cookie who will test the best of the best. i don't think he will ever become a champion but he will always give his best. i liken him to a "gatekeeper" of sorts for young champions and up and coming prospects.

let me say this again, juanma is not overrated one bit. he's a budding superstar in boxing who just had a tough time against an african warrior. even legends like roberto duran, alexis arguello, and others had rough outings with seemingly inferior opponents.

 

juanma was close to out on his feet and not from 1 shot but multiple shots that got in from a decent fighter who should not have given such a highly touted champion so much trouble. if this was juanma at his best then he sure as hell has been overated and will be in serious trouble when he meets a fighter who can slip past his offence. if what you are saying is that this was not juanma at his best then i really hope you are correct as i really like the kid.

i didn't see the fight but if what you say that juanma was practically out on his feet is true, it just makes me believe he's the real deal. i can say juanma was baptized tonight and he'll be a better fighter for it. the fact that he survived like a champion and withstood alot of adversity tells me his pedigree is solid and he's got heart. in juanma's relatively short career, he's had it his way for the most part. it's good for a young fighter to get into a dogfight and if he survives, he'll become a more battle tested ring warrior.
