Guys, I was at the fight live this past Saturday and in retrospect; what I saw has me really worried about Juanma. Don't get me wrong I am still a fan and supporter of his. But simply, he is not the fighter i thought he was. He gets hit way too much, looked slow and his stamina is suspect. When you see a fighter live you can see how fast he really is and how well he reacts to punches and I was not impressed. I have this feeing that he took this guy Rogers Mtagwa litely and he did not not prepare himself properly for 12 hard rounds. Last thing: I am not saying that they are right, but dont expect Arum and them to make the Caballero fight anytime soon. I want to see Juanma vs. Caballero as well but I am not so sure about who would win this fight anymore. I also think that Gamboa is a toss up fight. Junama needs to start putting in some extra work in the gym. Defense and satamina should be on the agenda for the next few months.
To my understanding I heard something like Mtagwa doesn't really have power. I never saw him fight until saturday night and I don't really know much about him. Juanma was on wobbley legs for about 2 mins & 50 seconds because that guy couldn't finish him. Had that been Gamboa, Juanma wouldn't have survived that round, Gamboa would have finished him very quickley. And Gamboa can hit. I wanna see Gamboa take him out.
I feel about the same disappointed in his performance he fought a stupid fight someone needs to tell this kid he's no Tito Trinidad. Arum said it was because JuanMa is killing himself to make weight like Cotto was at 140 that might have some truth but still does not valid the way he fought, Wide punches, dismal connect rate, and no practical defense what so ever he better stop believing his handler's hype about how powerful a puncher he is and stick to technical boxing because as his comp gets harder he will need to use boxing fundamental's that much more. Sure JuanMa showed us that there's no quit in him and that he has heart and i do give credit to his opponent who was tougher than his record suggest but all in all im dissapointed in the kid. We know your only as good as your last fight so if JuanMa can come back and put on some good performance's he can redeem himself in the future, Lets see what happens.
He needs to improve in many areas, but he still can punch and has solid technique him and Gamboa would still be a toss up. But i understand how you can feel like that after Saturday.
His defense is **** poor. Hes going to have problems as he moves up in weight and I cant see him staying at his current weight much longer.
I do not feel any different about a juanma/gamboa fight. I still believe juanma will ko gamboa. Gamboa doesn't have a chin like Mtagwa does. Gamboa wouldn't have even lasted 7 rounds against juanma. Mtagwa was able to take juanma's punches, gamboa won't.
It would be a fun fight to watch, and it's not like we've never seen Gamboa on the floor (mainly do to rookie mistakes and got back up to win everytime) but he's never been hurt the way Juanma was this past saturday. Mtagwa can't punch from what I know about him which IMO can only raise some concern about Juanma's chin. Juanma has a chance but obviously he's easy to hit. Penalosa touched him alot he just couldn't hurt him, Gamboa would have fun with this guy. But this fight would be good for the sport though.
But you're not noticing something, Mtagwa isn't a puncher. Juanma was nearly ko'd by a guy that's not a puncher. We've discovered a chin issue in Juanma now IMO. Mtagwa doesn't have the power, speed, or finishing ability that Gamboa has. Imagine if Gamboa touched Juanma's chin and wobbled him like that. He would take an L.
Honestly I agree, I thought JuanMa would walk through this guy. And he wants to fight Caballero and Gamboa who had that been either of them would have finished JuanMa off right there? I think he does have alot of work to do yet.
Haven't seen the fight yet, As I understand it Mtagwa was using his head, hitting behind the head and was hitting below the belt constantly and the Ref looked the other way. I think if Juama survived all that and still went 12rds this will only make him a better all around fighter. I have no doubt he will never take anyone else lightly from this point on. Hope he takes on Caballero and Gamboa niether would beat him imo.::bbb
Well if it's any consolation, these tough battles will only teach JML and his camp. It'll tell them where he is exactly and show them where improvements need to be made. I wish the best for this kid.
i havent seen the fight....but i read alot of interviews leading up...and im pretty sure that juan ma took this fight/fighter pretty seriously....it was a big deal...and im pretty sure he was aware that this guy was a rugged customer....we all knew how easily he could be hit after the penalosa fight
He took him lightly...he said he would KO him in the 1st round and he was already talking about a scheduled sit down on Sunday to ink a deal against Caballero. Hope he learned his lesson !!!!
I thought Juanma would walk through him also. But it's Boxing. Land of the strange. I wanna see him fight either one of those guys. Caballero or Gamboa. More Gamboa though.
