It was Hatton who said he felt he did hurt Pac before he got nailed and passed out. I guess a boxer knew if he connected a very good punch to his opponent. Pac could have been hurt alright, only it's not what did Ricky felt.
I would say hatton had him a little bit hurt from a few shots in the 2nd round but nothing serious and pac came straight bck.
I've got a Top Rank copy of the fight, in which the punches thrown and landed are shown from different angles (mostly close up). The incident which you're referring too, looked as though Hatton may have hurt Pac (in the HBO version). But if you watch it on Top Rank, the different camera angle shows Hatton actually elbowed Pac in the face. Hatton threw a jab that sort of turned into a hook before contact, and the elbow catches Pac flush on the chin. Whether it was deliberate or not, I'm not quite sure. Hatton was getting a little frustrated in there (trying to sneak blows, grabbing and hitting), the poor guy was just out of depth. Also in regards to Pac getting hit at 130+.....Diaz got to him a few times, but he answered back with shots of his own immediately. Oscar caught him flush on the chin (end of R4 I think??), but Pac just continued to do his thing. As for Ricky, well like others have already mentioned, he was too busy being hit with shots to land any of his own. Although he did catch him with a few shots, none of them were enough to worry him
Pac took a few hard shots from Hatton and admitted that Hatton hurt him in later interviews. Obviously, not enough to slow him down though. Pac's reaction to getting hit was to fire back. His strategy is the best defense is a good offense. In some of Pac's other fights, after getting hurt by a shot; Pac swings wildly. It's like a defense mechanism for him to prevent the other fighter from closing in and following up with a finishing blow.
I don't understand people that say he had him hurt, you guys might want to watch the fight more, it's only two rounds/six minutes. Hatton landed a shot as Pac was going in, it wasn't a right hand it was a JAB it just kind of PUSHED Pac backwards as he was caught in a wrong position so he backed off for a split sec and immediately Hatton charges in and gets caught his self and is forced back. It wasn't anything that stunned/hurt him, hell no, it was more balance than seriously hurt. Hatton landed a FLUSH serious right hand in the 2nd round, Pac took it, backed off a bit(obviously to counter) and caught Hatton with a big punch. Hatton froze for a second, Pac moves some more and they were back in action. Nothing serious that hurt him at all in that fight, not even stunned/rocked or gained his attention. It was Hatton in trouble from start to finish. You guys need to look at fighter's legs more and understand how they work it to know what's going on.
If you watch the Top Rank version of the fight, they show a close up replay from the side. You'll find that Hatton actually connects his elbow flush on Pac's chin. Which sort of disrupted Pac's rythem and positioning, so he backed off just like you said :good
Just because Pac doesn't show it, doesn't mean that he's not hurt by a shot. Any good fighter will try and fight through it and will try not to show that he's hurt. Boxing is mental as well as physical. If you show a fighter that you've been hurt, that can raise his spirits and cause him to fight harder. However, if you've hit a guy with your best shot and he still keeps on coming; that can cause you to resign your hopes and give up.
If I'm thinking of the same punch you are then Hatton was standing on Pac's foot, he was off balance, not shaken.
Yes Pac hasnt really taken a flush shot above 130,and hes a facing a VERY strong welterweight In Cotto, and that will lead to pacs Knockout loss in my opinion And I disagree in my opinion Pac doesnt have the power to hurt Cotto,Cotto has a very good chin
ricky landed a left hook but he was still badly shaken so it def wasn't full impact !!!!!! cotto's will be :deal
LOL @ the Pac fans in denial. Yes Pac obliterated Hatton, yet he still got caught with a right hand that stunned him for a second.
Hoya got in a couple good punches which made Pac back off. But he brace for it. Nobody has yet landed the punch that he couldn't see yet.
