Roy Jones....is it too late to solidify his legacy?

I'm not saying that Calzaghe did all possible to pursue the biggest fights out there for his whole career, he was too interested in money to do that until later on. But in the case of Hopkins, there is no way in hell that was Calzaghe's fault that the fight didn't happen earlier.

 

Please. Stop failing because its getting stupid now. Hopkins pulled out of a Calzaghe fight years earlier. Common knowledge.

Theres even a bbc article where Calzaghe says he wants Hopkins after that Pudwill replacement fight!! Shows you how much he thought of him. Go find the article yourselfs. These Calzaghe haters get so boring.

 

Didn't you start this by saying a win over Hopkins puts Roy in the top 10 all time? Hell, you even implied Danny Green would do it.

Anyway, Roy's legacy is pretty set; a BHop win is significant, maybe bumps him up a notch or two, but top-10 talk is out of line.

 

Glass Jaw Roy never beat a unified, undisputed, or linear champion in his whole career. So I would say it is too late. He simply refused to make the big fights. End of discussion.

 

I don't care if RJJ or Tyson lost their way..... I still remember the magic.

btw Jones has his legacy. If he beats Green and Hopkins it just adds to his greatness.

 

****ing bull****!! Hopkins, 2002 and he wouldn't have lost his MW belt either but he still didn't want any of Joe. Did he take it? No. He took Tito and DLH; two guys who if you think Joe would lose to you're a fool.

 

It's more like 4...but yeah his legacy is complete. It's funny though, he's better than most at 175 right now, even if he's been shot for the last 5 years. Thats why he keeps going because he can't make as much doing anything else.

 

Could your Joe even have met DeLaHoya and Trinidad at 160?? I understand Joe is the so called greatest 168 but did he ever even fight at middle? Hell he never even fought Jones, Toney, or Griffen when they where all at 168...

 

He has done enough but can add to his legacy.
Beating Hopkins again and winning world titles at Middle, Super Middle, Light Heavy, Cruiser and Heavy Weight is an AMAZING feat.
He just has to win his next two fights.

1994 - 3 years before Calzaghe first fought for a world title.

Montell Griffin never fought at the Super Middleweight limit.

For 90% of his career, Joe Calzaghe fought at the Super Middleweight limit.

But these are merely facts. They mask the fact that Joe Calzaghe should have put on weight 3 years into his fledgling career to fight Toney before he was ready.

 

Late 90's...now that I think about it...Toney had fallen off the map at that time so yeah, correction, he wouldn't have been on Calzages's radar.
