Who Ranks Higher, David Tua or John Ruiz?

Atleast Tua actually faced Lennox for the linear title.

There is a reason Don King never let Ruiz anywhere near Lennox.

 

Just saying that title accomplishments and having the single best win on either's resume gives Ruiz a better ranking than most would like to give him. As well, I do think Ruiz did get "better" after the Tua fight (meaning harder to beat, if not something anyone wants to see). I wouldn't consider that "prime" Ruiz - I'm sure many will call bull****, but if that argument applies to other fighters, it applies to Ruiz, too.

I don't like defending Ruiz. His career is much of what's bad about boxing. But I try to be as objective as I can. I still see Tua as higher, but would like it to be much higher and his inactivity/weak opponents for 6 years prevent that.

Of course, careers aren't done yet either.

 

Ruiz has accomplishments but will be forgotten in 2 years after retirement which will be seen as a big relief,
Tua never accomplished anything but he will stay in memory for long years and people will pray for him to unretire .

 

Considering that Ruiz is similar to the **** stain residue that you can never get rid of on white underwear no matter how many times you wash them in bleach, Tua has to rank higher. AND.... the guy lost to RJJ whose not even a heavyweight. AND he lost badly, I think just about every round. Don't care who Ruiz has fought or what titles he's held. If you are a heavyweight and you get beaten by a non heavyweight that gives up as much weight as RJJ did, you are less worthy then trash. Yes, RJJ is probably going down as a potential top 10 ATG during his prime but still, no excuse for the lame performance by Ruiz in that fight and in just about every one of his fights. RJJ even said there was no way he was stepping in the ring with Lewis, a real heavyweight. I couldnt see him stepping in vs Tua for the same reason. What does that say about how shitty Ruiz is that a smaller man targets him to steal his belt because he sees him and knows him as being a "weaker" heavyweight?

 

On paper, Ruiz.

In terms of actual skill, deserving of award, and whatnot, Tua.

 

Oh! I forgot to mention - I'd personally rank Tua higher, but it's hard to say how it'd go down because of the sharp comparison in terms of paper accomplishments...

Many who are easily oo'd and ah'd by statistics and belts, and don't know much of the actual fighters will easily give the edge, in this sense, to Ruiz. So, probably Ruiz!

Ruiz is 3-time Heavyweight Champion. :happy And maybe in a position for yet 1 more title shot before his career is over.

But that fight just showed me that H2H Tua would beat Ruiz at most of any times.

 

Yeah. I hate defending Ruiz too but you can't put up what you think Tua could have or would have done given the right circumstances, title-wise with what Ruiz actually did. There's a lot to consider here though. Ruiz never had a devastating kayo victory over a guy like Michael Moorer or...himself. Tua has. Tua has knockouts over Moorer and Ruiz in the first round and knockout victories over Maskaev and Rahman too.

Ruiz's stint against former MWs is pretty pathetic though.

 

Tua landed one lucky punch against Ruiz and has lost all his other big fights.The Quiet Man always stays in shape and is a two time champion with a much better resume.John Ruiz has an excellent chance of getting into the Hall of Fame while Tua is still fighting scrubs in New Zealand.

 

Depends on what you are considering.

Tua was the bigger talent, was able to reach a higher level in his prime, but Ruiz achieved much more in his career.

As far as history goes Ruiz is ahead.
