If Roy Jones had faced the Calzaghe in this vid... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujQmwSZ4-zk&feature=related[/ame] Oh wait...
no tarver doesnt beat joe - neither does johnson. but you dont have the composure to keep this up, thats clear.
Jones Jr himself said he felt Calzaghe would have been the toughest challenger at any point of his career and that age should not come into it. Calzaghe being 37, wasn't exactly a spring chicken himself and has had a history of bad hand injuries throughout his career. Prime Joe vs Prime RJJ? The only thing for certain is that I'd love to see that fight.
This is the correct answer. no one knows who would win. Based on accomplishments you'd have to say Jones. Based on watching their primes and sklillsets it's 50/50 and ignoring this thread's starting video is ofc compulsory.
I had always said that Calzaghe would lose to Jones Jr in a spirited effort and a closer fight than any other Jones Jr had prior to the move to HW. After seeing what he did with Jones Jr in the ring, despite the age and despite the losses already on Jones Jr's card, I changed my mind and cannot pick who would win that fight.
ive answered them a million times before...now i'll do it again for your benefit.... Q: why did calzaghe stay with warren and subscribe to his philosophy of milking the public while putting his fighters at 'minimal risk' fighting mandatories we all knew he could beat? A. because the only other option was to crack the US market where it wouldnt have been hard to get a crack at jones or hopkins when it mattered. Q: why didnt hopkins fight joe in 2002 or jones fight for his "easy belt?". A: firstly, it was never an easy belt. joe's a good fighter. secondly, high risk low reward fighters who dont bring substantial cash and PPV numbers do not get free meal tickets to the best fighters of their era by fighting hacks in wales...which is why warren and joe chose their fate to begin with. you dont get a crack at the big boys unless you earn it.
Unlike Byrd, Calzaghe had fast hands and better movement. His awkward style would have kept Jones off. Jones was cautious with Byrd until he stung him, then he went right on in - cause he knew Byrd didn't have the speed to land a sneaky counter. People who imagine Roy would demolish Joe are just stupid - it would be a close points decision for Jones, more than likely.
i may just agree with the first part, but if you're serious about the second part you could use some boxing lessons.
You show absolute idiocy when making posts, because you conviniently forget things like Joe attempting to get Steve Collins in the ring but being rebuked, Joe attempting to get Bernard Hopkins in the ring, but being rebuked, Joe attempting to get Sven Ottke in the ring, but being rebuked. The money wasn't there, so Joe couldn't force these guys to fight him, no one wanted to fight him after what he did to Reid, Starie and Eubank, because unlike you, boxers know who the other good boxers are. You don't get a crack at the big boys until you can EARN for them - Joe got the money together after Lacy and fought the "big boys" from that point on, dominated two of them and landed more on Hopkins than he's ever had land before.
i agree it probably wouldnt have been decisive. after saying that, jones' speed and power at LHW meant he was one the few fighters in history who could have closed fights at any time.
Problem is, you seem to think Jones Jr is completely detoriated from any version of himself he used to be. Jones Jr, being a gym rat and a fitness freak doesn't detoriate that quickly. His 75% version got dominated by a 75% version of Calzaghe in my view. At least Jones Jr can still throw power shots without worrying about breaking his hands.
ottke was a poor mans version of joe. hopkins was a man with much higher standing than joe who held all the cards. i wont be 'convenient' with you when i'm posting even though you'll be convenient labelling me. next question.
