on the ropes it was one fight, in the center of the ring it was a totally different fight. tarver didn't do enough to win, plain and simple. he could have, but didn't.
Been a while since I saw the fight, but at the time I remember not being too sure about it, so I chose " draw ".
What's up with that? I am interested in everyone else's opinion from the FACT that Jones did win---or that Tarver didn't do enough to win. Besides, why don't you show some maturity instead of name calling? JoeyP
i also feel in their 3rd fight, jones could have and should have done more. he could have won that fight easily, but his confidence was all ****ed up. he pissed me off in that fight, but hey, what can you do? just thought i'd throw that in there.
Again I agree--I thought Jones had him hurt in the 4th/5th round and was to scared to follow up with it.
i remember watching tarver celebrate after the first fight and i was thinking "why the **** is he celebrating?". then he was crying like a ***** after the decision. he really thought he won that fight. lol.
Jones won it but he looked shot. Tarver basically gave him the fight by not putting enough pressure on, though it was obvious Roy looked weakened. Tarver won some rounds bigger but didnt win enough rounds to get the decision.
What I don't understand is how they said Roy had a glass jaw after the second fight. He clearly got hit by a punch on his blind side right on the temple. In the first fight he ate all of Tarvers punches and he wasn't even hurt throughout and pulled many of the rounds, he showed heart in that fight. Unfortunately If I was Roy I would've stayed heavy and told tarver to meet him on his terms at heavy, or SAID screw Tarver and just go for it with Lewis. Win or Lose he would gained more out of it, fighting someone that big and good. BTW I had Roy winning by about 3 rounds or so I believe.
It was a loss for Tarver, but a very telling loss. I had Jones winning, but if the fight were 15 rounds I think Tarver would have won, probably by KO. Also, even though I did have Jones winning, it was very clear that Tarver did more damage than Roy. Fights are scored on a 10 point must round system, so Roy won, but Tarver beat him up.
Truly, Roy took a LOT of punishment in the first Tarver fight. I honestly believe that the first Tarver fight took a lot from his chin forever. It is tough for some fighters to recover from hard beatings.
Because that would be far too intelligent for him. Jones won it no question, the only contraversy was that it was the closest fight of his career at that stage.
