Juanma fought the Clottey of his division. I just watched the fight and I feel he handled this monster better than what I heard. Mtagwa was relentless in attack with a solid chin. Mtagwa's style is trouble for any fighter. Juanma will not run into a fighter of this style again for a while. He still beats Gambo IMO. Gamboa has been rocked many a times, and Juanma would put his lights out. Juanma proved a chin in this fight. Mtagwa hit him with bombs and Juanma stayed in there and showed true champion spirit. But bring on Gamboa!
Mtagwa isn't the Clottey of his division. More like the Lovemore N'Dou of the division. He's better than his record indicates, but he's still just a high end gatekeeper with toughness and a lot of guts. Heck, he fought the Salido fight when he broke his rib in training the week before (and surprise surprise, he got KOed with a body shot). But he's been on his ass 5 or 6 times before and he's been outboxed by fringe contenders. Billy Dib blew him out of the water. Can you imagine someone like Billy Dib making Josh Clottey look like he doesn't belong in the same ring? Juanma had an off night and a really bad game plan, and that's really all there is to it.
You sir are one deluded fellow. If Mtagwa could do that to Lopez and he is less technically sound then what do you think will happen if we have to just make an educated guess when Lopez fights Gamboa who in my opinion would be miles faster, just as durable if not more and he would be the naturally bigger man, faster, stronger, more accurate and moves 10 times better, well it dont take a rocket scientist does it. Lopez has been one of these pampered fighters who had never been in a real tough fight and now he has been it might make him a better fighter but in my opinion Gamboa will **** this kidd up and **** him up bad. Lopez went life and death with Mtagwa, keep that in perspective, Mtagwa is tough but if Gamboa fights Mtagwa, Mtagwa would be knocked out within 3 rounds. Gamboa would stop Lopez, I was never ever sold on Lopez at any point because most of his previous opponents were smaller in stature but Mtagwa brought the fight to him, got just as physical and beat that BOY up. Lopez was treated like a Boy in that fight and got beat down. He was lucky to survive, him surviving had more to do with Mtagwa not picking his shots rather than him staying up, he got another life in that fight because of it, but Kudos to him for staying up but that ***** got beat down and Gamboa will finish him...I even think Caballero would knock him out and I thought all this before the Mtagwa fight.
Yep, he's trouble for any fighter... except 12 others before Juanma! Let's see, that's quite a few: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 times this guy's got beaten b4... and really doubt any of those losses was as close as this one!
So Clottey has lost, and many other tough fighters have losses on thier records. Juanma landed everything on Mtagwa and could not take him out. Many others have folded from Juanma's punching power and Mtagwa didn't. So really I am giving credit to both fighters, as they should get. And regardless of what people think, Juanma and Gamboa will be fireworks. I believe Juanma wins, and others are picking Gamboa. Interesting fight!
Mtagwa is no Clottey, but he deserves another big payday after that performance. How about Vazquez - Mtagwa?
Styles make fights, so you just never know until they get in the ring. If Gamboa can stop Lopez, than Lopez can certainly stop Gamboa. Gamboa has been floored and hurt by lesser opponents. And if Lopez is pampered, than so is Gamboa. They both are young up and coming fighters so lets give them a break.
Jimenez, De Jesus and Ramirez all floored GAMBOA so please stop with the... he's too fast, better footwork and all other nonsense. Are we saying that these 3 have as much power as Lopez? If they ALL do then WOW. But I see a very good chess match up until Gamboa gets hit with a Bomb!
I couldn't agree more. I actually called Mtagwa a poor man's Lovemore N'Dou on here a couple of days ago. His a tough fighter but he's certainly no Josh Clottey. JuanMa a little raggedy against a fringe contender. Hopefully he learns from it. It's ridiculous to now see Mtagwa being hyped up like this just because he gave a hyped up fighter a tough fight.
Floored isn't exactly the word I'd pick. One caught him with a forearm shiver, and the other two caught him coming in with flash knockdowns. This was a great learning experience for JuanMa, he went the distance with a veteran, and like Cotto did coming up, he learned about how to survive when in deep, deep trouble. I actually was hoping for his own good he would be tested before Gamboa or Caballero fights, I just didn't think Mtagwa would be the one to proctor the exam. But God help JuanMa if he gets into a firefight with Gamboa getting as square and defensively irresponsible as he was with Mtagwa. What is it with the new school coming out of Puerto Rico that they don't tie up? Ruiz could make a fortune just traveling around the island when he retires, teaching kids how to clinch.
