There should be a rule about sissys constantly running cap in hand begging for a mod to save them when they feel intimidated by alpha males. Virgin? look at me, look at you, the end. Next
Err...just because Eubank's fights did not take place in USA doesnt mean he didnt fight on the big stage. Benn-Eubank was bigger than any Hopkins fight, not just in the UK but all of Europe. And Eubanks win over Benn is arguably better than any Hopkins win. Id pick Hopkins UD but wouldnt be the least bit surprised by a Eubank upset.
benn-eubank wasnt bigger than hopkins. thats what i mean. hopkins ruled a weak division but he did it on the big stage. there is no excuse for talented british fighters to make that same impression on the world stage just like there isnt for guys like ottke, DM and felix sturm. but if you choose, or allow your promoters to make that call for you, then its bad form to talk about "what if" scenarios just because they looked good domestically. either make the jump like hatton or complain like junior witter. its that cut and dry.
Dont see anyone tko'ing a prime BHOP....I'd pick Hopkins maybe by a SD in a fight a lot more entertaining than people would think.
Eubank has a GREAT chance in this fight seeing as a young Hopkins was far more of a come forward fighter than the older version. Eubank is one of the most overrated fighters of all time, but I think he merely loses a close decision.
Hopkins by clear decision. Eubank is wide open for counter-punching and hasn't got the foot-speed or work-rate to impose himself on a prime Hopkins in any meaningful way. Hopkins picks him off over 12.
Eubank isn't open to counter-punching - he seldom forced a fight, which is the only reason he'd stand a chance in this fight.
Studying Eubank-Benn I and Eubank-Watson I, I just love the way Eubank uses the ring and attacks from angles; going in low to make himself a small target. It's impressive and effective. He's also extremely untelegraphed in these fights. Hopkins of '97 was a brawler, though a technically skilled, rangey pressure-fighter would be a better description. He didn't look beatable against Glen Johnson, but then again it was only Glen Johnson. Hard to say. Hopkins is quite upright and Eubank was effective at changing angle of attack, sneaking in low and getting out. Eubank was also cat-like, though Hopkins was incredibly more consistent. The flashier work would come from Eubank, but Hopkins would be picking up a lot of middle and later rounds on workrate and arrow-like, range-found punches. Maybe Hopkins nicks it on points. But a close fight regardless. I am talking a relatively young Hopkins here - upto '00-'01, if that. An older, more economical Hopkins would be beaten by Eubank.
Hopkins wins a boring decision there wont be many punches thrown and hokins has a better jab and will be harder to hit clean so will win by a few rounds
