BIG DEE HERE= Tony Ayala never progressed beyond a very good prospect a Prime John Mugabi would have taken Ayala out before the third rd as Ayala was nothing more than a good prospect. Ayala came up with that group of future champs which included Bobby Czyz
who did step up and got slaughterd for his trouble. The same thing would happen to Ayala
only instead of getting beat up by a guy with just good punching power he would be getting hit by on of the hardest punchers in Jr middleweight history. Mugabi KO in 3 or less

BIG DEE HERE= Ayala would have gotten just beat up and slaughtered by Hagler Tony was a prospect he wasn`t in line or would have gotten a title shot as he hadn`t fought a top contender at the time he let his ***** rule his life

    Agreed.

I'm not sure it'd go 3 though and the over/under on the bout may have been 2 rounds. I think 2 rounds at the most & it 's probably over in 1 and most like the Mugabi--Hargrove fight. At 154, Mugabi has a huge edge in handspeed and the opponents he looks best against are the guys that come to him & the Ayala footwork is a come forward only style and not evasive whatsoever. Mugabi was the rarest of breeds with 1 punch ko power in both hands and Tony is going to get hit and it won't be jabs because the beast didn't throw any. Ayala also held those hands low and dipped to the side before throwing that left hook to the body. Sure leaves a big opening & that habit was going to get exploited once Tony stepped up class and 154 hitters like Hearns/Mugabi/Jackson/Mccallum would've starched the guy and capitalized on those openings.

All these guys picking Mugabi to blow out Ayala:patsch:patsch Man this would have been a war but you obviously dont know Ayala! He was a better boxer and had alot more heart and warrior mentality. Dont get me wrong Mugabi showed his mettle against Hagler,Green but na :nono Ayala would beat up mugabi after a back and forth 5 round hed end up stopping Mugabi

how do ya know about Ayala's heart and warrior mentality ? In his first career he never had to show either and when he did have to gut it out in his 2nd career he quit against Yory.... The Beast wins quickly for me...

Its just one of those things you know and feel,Ayala is the last person someone would wanna **** off or knockdown(Maldanado) I also trust Duvas opinion on this. He went to war with yori and i think it was his corner that stopped it:huh

MAYBE THATS WHY I:huh DID THAT,THAT WAS A WAR THOUGH AND HE SHOWED THAT HE HAD SOME SKILLS AFTER BEING OFF FOR ALMOST 20YEARS,JUST SHOWS HOW GREAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN. EVEN AFTER 20 YEARS I THINK HE WAS STILL A LOWER TOP10 CONTENDER. THROW THE BONSANTE FIGHT OUT HE OBVIOULSY WAS PARTYING AND SHOT TO **** COMPARED TO WHEN HE FOUGHT YORI BOY.

Campas was never a world beater and lost to every word-class fighter he fought. Lopez was and always would be a dangerous contender, but I don't think he would have been an udisputed champ. He was good enough to take a title, but he wouldn't be the best in his division. He was too limited and a skilled fighter would have lit his ass up. He was only 5'7" with short arms. Just think of if he fought a guy like McCallum or Norris. they would have made short work of him.

I think you mean Ayala. Ayala was an underrated boxer and not just som e one dimensional brute. I can see Mccallum not being a good matchup for Ayala but i could also see ayala out working him,but not so confidant in that fight for tony. Norris would get knocked out by ayala i have no doubt and would bet a paycheck on that one! Norris would probably put it on ayala early but ayala would whether it and knock Norris out in 7. Tony was 5-8 and Norris 5-9 so not much differance. Tony was also a naturally strong Jm and would have even been a helluva middleweight too.

No way. He was a chubby JM. I could see Tony knocking Norris out, as Terry was a frontrunner, and if he couldn't keep Tony down, he might get kayoed himself, but Norris was a great boxer and could easily outbox him. Now does Tony outwork Mike. I can envision McCallum Stopping Tony on bodyshots.

Must watch the green fight. John cannot take a sudden sharp jolt to his unprotected chin.

If you didnt see it in the Green fight, you can see it in the Norris fight.

    See? His chin is soft!

Believe me, experience is not a factor here. Tony will work his concussive magic early on and level the Ugandan in short order with his bludgeoning power.

The only reason John looked as good as he did with Hags is only b/c the great one was just a shadow of a shadow. Believe me, that is the only reason. and he still lost

Score with just ONE damaging blow, and he loses heart and bows out. Duane Thomas proved it.

Thats funny you said that cuz i was questioning myself when i said mugabi had a good chin pre-hagler. I remember Green hurting mugabi, although i gave him benefit of the doubt on his chin cuz he took a lot of shots from Hagler before finally getting stopped, but his chin did get weaker after. Thomas and Norris knocked out a shell of the prime Mugabi.I think he partied alot too, i once seen him drunk in an interview (think itwas tuesday nite fights) it was hilariously being drunk and with the heavy african accent:lol::lol:
