A boxer with good in and out movement that can feint and draw him into opening his shell and counter those looping shots. Big power dosent matter much, as arthur has a good chin, but decent power is need to keep him honest. Also insane stamina is a necessity. Lets see how Paul Williams does against Pavlik, then we might see if we got a good candidate
Abraham is like a Clottey but with power and more determination. As mentioned above, you need to be able to time his looping hooks when he's coming in and effectively counterpunch.
Calzaghe. Someone who can really adapt. Yep, prime or close to prime Calzaghe. Kessler is still my favorite to win the Super Six. I think he could do it.
I think Andrade would knock Abraham out with his relentless pressure, his uppercuts on the inside, his solid power and his granite chin. If someone takes the fight on the inside to Abraham they will limit the effect of his power punches and also it will be easier to break through that tight guard when Abraham opens up. I thought Taylor would be able to create openings to the body and head with his jab and then power shots between or around the guard. He did have some sparing success doing that but Abraham's guard is held very tight and he is incredibly strong.
It is when he fights in Germany, you can't win on the score cards there, so it forces you to gameplan for a KO.
Abraham not only has the high guard although that is what he is easy to remember him by - he also controls distance really well with the guard. Sometimes he takes it down and protects himself by leaning backwards. And suddenly he seems very far away because Taylor had to hit something almost half a meter futher away and Abraham's fists were not half a meter further away. So he varies his defense nicely. His attack is another thing. He tends to wing hooks and almost only hooks for most of the fight. In almost every situation he hooks in combinations either to the head or from the body ending in the head. Taylor was drawn to put his guard wider and wider as AAs punches came at the sides due to the hooks.... then suddenly AA starts a typical spur with a left hook and Taylor covers up wide - and then comes a devastating straight right! Nice and effective variation in attack.
Abraham has every punch in the book. People tend to pidgeon hole him as a brawler because he does look ungainly with those leaping hooks he so loves. But that doesn't change the fact he threw a beautiful right hand to knock Taylor out, has scored countless KO's with uppercuts, works the body infrequently but effectively, and has an effective stiff jab, and all of those punches are thrown perfectly.
hooks, uppercuts, chopping leads... straight punches are not the ticket w AA. you must punch around his guards. footwork... angles to set your shot up w leads. you cant directly engage w him throwing 1s and 2s w his high guard. you cant rely on straight shots like that slipping through. plus feints... and major work to the body. also, despite his height he is not an inside fighter....
Kessler, I've got to back Kessler. I'm feeling more confident he'll make the semis now because even if he loses close to Ward, I definitely feel he has the beating of Froch in the second round, and then of course he has Taylor. Ward will be the hardest fight in his hometown. I can never rule out this guy Abraham though. He can knock any of these guys out, there is no doubt about it.
