If the object of striking a person's face is to cause it damage, and one guy has visible damage at the end of a fight and the other guy does not, despite apparently receiving more punches, does that affect the application of this rule?
Regardless of how you feel about Dirrell's strategy, that was the only time Froch land anything. Even then, Froch was not effective. I hear you on the defensive mindset Dirrell had in the fight, but he won the fight landing far more effecitve shots than Froch did.
Go back and watch the fight. Dirrell had Froch seriously hurt and the ref steps in and buys him time. IIRC it was round 10.
nationalism aside. dirrell landed more than one flurry. that's ridiculous. froch barely rocked him and dirrell landed as many telling blows if not more. it was a close fight and froch should probably have gotten the decision because he was champ, but come on be objective. froch's an arrogant ***** also. aslo froch's whinning about dirrell not being a warrior and standing and trading is a bit much. one when dirrell did it, he got the upper hand. plus, the goal of boxing is not to get hit, not to show who's the bravest and dumbest
That's pretty much it. For all of Froch's determination, he was simply ineffective at landing punches. For the record, the clean rabbit punches he landed all night long... should not be counted toward scoring. I'm not being sarcastic. Illegal blows do not count for scoring points.
Im not a froch fan. I watched it as a neutral. Both fighters in my opinion were crap. The simple fact is Direll blew his chance. Instad of running during the middle rounds he should have taken control with more effective combinations, switch hitting. Instead he allowed froch to have the centre of the ring and dictate the cat and mouse game. Yes ill agree in the latter round dirrell hit froch with a fair few shots HOWEVER dirrell was clealry caught several times despite what many say on here. The fact he had a cut above his right eye and his nose was bleedin after taking a swining right hook in the 2nd should show that. It was a crap fight and could have gone either way.
