If Kessler Wins The Super Six Does Calzaghe's Stock Go Up?

Of course it does.

The argument against Joe (stupidly) is that he never fought and beat a world class fighter in their primes, but then this argument extends to near anyone who isn't Oscar De La Hoya or Roy Jones Jr in this era.

Should Kessler win the Super 6, he would prove himself a world class fighter and his prime as it were, would have been during the Calzaghe loss.

Should Kessler lose to Ward, you'll no doubt have the "See, Calzaghe sucks" band. For some reason, beating Hopkins wasn't enough.

 

Kessler had a busted hand in their fight so probably not

 

He did? Funny how this wasn't said at the time.

I know Joe had a broken hand, being that he had to take time off to let it mend after their fight, but Kessler? Seriously?

Neither hand seemed broken when he was bouncing uppercuts off of Joe's face.

 

Calzaghe also had a busted hand in a lot of fights.

I can't understand the anti-Calzaghe types. Sure, he never fought Jones Jr or Hopkins in their prime, but he still went unbeaten, and when he did eventually fight Hopkins he won. He actually had a fight lined up with Hopkins around 2002, which Hopkins pulled out of for financial reasons. Every time Calzaghe had a fight where people doubted him, he proved them wrong.

 

It was before the fight and stopped him sparring. I think it was ok by the time of the fight.

 

Joe's stock is already high after the Kessler fight in particular. Only the ignorant feels that Kessler winning this tourney would add to it.

 

Calzaghe had busted hands for nearly every single fight in his career, does that boost his wins ?

 

It only raises Calzaghe's stock with the ignorant, those who can observe the sport correctly realise Calzaghe is the most effective boxer there has ever been and cannot begin to regard him much higher.

In two years everyone will realise Kessler is the P4P number 1.

Calzaghe is not active so his stock doesn't exist right now unless you're talking about legacy. I personally don't think any fighter should represent another because of a win over them. People won't remember what Kessler won after the Calzaghe loss to describe Calzaghe, they will bring up how Calzaghe beat him.

Kessler winning the tournament only makes Calzaghe's win over him better, it won't improve Calzaghe's legacy because his legacy is already there when he retired and fully accomplished.

 

There are those who argue that Calzaghe never beat a prime, elite fighter and only hand-picked a couple of big fights years after they should have been made (not that I believe that). To those people, Kessler obviously doesn't count as that meaningful a victory; but, were he to win the Six, that would surely establish his credentials and make Calzaghe's record a little more plump.
