After watching last night's fight against Jermain Taylor, I was wondering if Arthur Abraham is the most explosive fighter in the game today.

The only other guy I can think of that is close is Manny Pacquiao. Perhaps David Haye, if he were still a cruiserweight.

Though Pac is incredibly dynamic himself, I don't think he has the same level of vicious torque that Abraham gets on his punches.

The hardest shots AA threw all night, IMO, were several blows that failed to land either mid or late in the fifth round. There were at least two punches he threw, they both missed, but they looked like they could cut through a steel girder if they had landed.

Please vote in the poll and share your thoughts below.

I think Pacquiao is probably the most explosive, he lacks torque simply because his a lightweight. It's a close call though.

    You may be right.

What Pac might lack in torque he could make up in speed. That shot to drop Hatton was a canon.

I give Haye props, too. I'm not a big fan but his speed and power combo is formidable, though more so at CW.

I think Pacquiao deserves that award, Abraham might get my vote in the higher weight classes though.

He missed some bombs, but others, which were partially blocked or caught Taylor's ears had the same effect if a lighter puncher was actually connected. The reason people don't dare to counter when Abraham opens up - leaving defensive holes - is because he's getting at you no matter how hard you can possibly place a nice counter. He's just so fluid.

The most impressive thing in Abraham's explosiveness BTW is his body punching. He must've landed at about 80%, as opponents cover up to survive the head assault and Abraham - leaving his head open to counter - goes to the body. But you don't see boxers punishing him for that in these moments.

Someone with great speed, footwork, head $ upper body movement (Dirrell, Ward) could counter well, but they will understand too that when he explodes, this 'sloppy guy with turtle guard' becomes a very quick, vicious puncher who mixes up wide, wild shots whit short, lethal blows, which ultimately caught poor Jermain Taylor.

I find it hard to rate different styles in explosiveness. I would say that Abraham has the most explosive acceleration, from standing like a statue in a boxing museum to a full - force attack with shots that can knock anybody out. This type of explosiveness probably has a strong effect on an opponent's psyche, even if you survived a few of these explosions, you will probably have an uneasy expectation of the next one when Abraham stands there doing nothing for half a round.

Not for me he isn't. Those that have already been named, Tua Pac & Haye, would be fighters I would say are more 'explosive'.
