People hark at the catchweight fights of today but they were common place in the old days...the best fighters fighting the best despite weight class or title belts.....IMO these two are the best two fighters I have ever seen....There will never be another Ray or Roy. Robinson to some is the best fighter of all-time IMO i give that too Henry Armstrong.....the man at 126,135,147, and drew with the middlweight champion despite a bizzsaw style anyway.....this would be a great fight and I would like to know who you guys think would win. I believe Jones would would present something Robinson ever encountered someone a little bigger, faster and more powerfulo....Robinson was the most complete fighter but Jones the most talented. I give Jones the edge.....too elusive and hit hard enough to get Robinson respect and robinson wasn't as slick as advertised.
50/50.....problem for Jones is RObinson could match his handspeed but probably not his physical strength... put it this way I never saw Robinson in with anyone like Jones, If Jake LA mottta could beat him and find Ray Robinson, Jones lazer like accuracy would butcher him
Why a catchweight of 164? Both guys were middleweights why not just make this fantasy fight there? Or do you figure Jones wasn't in his prime yet till he hit super middleweight?
Thanks Rico, finally somebody with some sense. Robinson would have knocked out Roy Jones in the early rounds. Jones never fought anyone like Robinson. Tarver and Glenn Johnson knocked him out. Ray Robinson was the greatest ever. As far as Henry Armstrong was concerned; Robinson let him go the distance against him.
