What if three of the six win one fight each?

I don't think the possibility of a tie is that low... Let's say (for the sake of the argument, because they don't fight each other in the first 3 rounds) Kessler and Abraham win all three fights each. Then they're 1st and 2nd, who is who depends on who has more KOs, but they still could end both with 1, 2 or even 3 KOs so we'd have a tie here too...

And for the rest - Froch loses the next two (resulting from the above assumption K. and A. win all three, since Froch fights them both in round 2 and 3) so he has 2 points. Taylor beats Ward on points but gets KOd by Kessler, so he has 2 points too. Direll gets KOd by Abraham but beats Ward on points, so he has 2 points too. Ward has nothing. So you have Froch, Taylor and Direll with 2 points each.

You can change this a bit, for example assuming Ward beats Taylor, then you have Froch, Direll and Ward with 2 points each. Or you can have Ward beating Direll, then you have Froch, Taylor and Ward with 2 points each. So you have lots of possibilities for a tie, making the overall chance of a tie much more then it might look like.

Sure the +1 points for KO victory help a lot to eliminate the ties, but you must score KO first to get it, and it won't be easy, expecially with Direll who runs like a squirell all night long, Taylor will be keeping distance as well after the KO, and something tells me Ward isn't planning to stand his ground against Kessler at all... It's pretty easy to win on points against a guy who runs all night, but it's extremely hard to score a KO this way...

The worst possible scenario would be having Kessler and Abraham in a tie for Nr. 1 and three of the four in a tie for Nr. 3 and Nr. 4... THAT would be VERY inconvenient, for you'd have to decide who's Nr. 5 and even then you'd have to decide who gets to fight whom in 1/2 finals...

Maybe the'll just flip the coins or pull the straws...

 

The outcome is not unlikely. Two of them with 3-0, three with 1-2, and one 0-3 could easily happen.

They WILL have a solution for tie-breaks. But using a straw would be BAD.

We will see after the Kessler/Ward fight, if they devulge some mor info on that.

 

Even if they were deducting points for KO losses (which they're not) common sense would suggest that the guy who has won more fights would go through. But as I say I don't believe they're deducting points if you lose by KO so its a moot point.

The scoring system in place isn't perfect by any means but given the number of competitors and the timeframe they have for this tournament I think it's the fairest one they could have come up with.
