He was right about the card and how the Germans like to put on a show for the fans. Does anyone know how BBC Five Live scored the fight?

 

tbh I dont even bother reading any boxing type articles on the bbc. They dont exist as far as the sport are concerned, I wouldnt even bother even wasting time going on their boxing page. They know **** all.

Far from being a "terrible article", it's the harsh, and depressing, reality.

He does have a ****ing awful name, but he's definitely one of the bbcs better sports writers.

It's a well written article that makes some good points, that are for the most part, unfortunately true.

 

Its a pity but most of what he said is true.As for the posters on 606 most of them make the general forum here read like Ring Magazine.

I think he has a point. The fight was ****. The undercard was ****. And from what he says the whole evenings events were ****. Boxing is struggling, promoters and event managers need to be a the top of their game and provide a good experience, at a good price, or people WILL go elsewhere.

 

I can't really argue with that article to be honest.

Everything was in place to really put on a great evening of boxing - the arena had sold out, the tv coverage was sorted, the fans were genuinly excited about the fight, however it all just seemed to be done in a semi-professional manner.

The undercards were absolutely dreadful, for a world title fight we had a bunch of boxers who nobody had heard of and nobody is interested in - I dont mind young boxers or non famous boxers appearing on undercards, but the last 2 or 3 fights before the main event should at least grab the fans attention, especially if those fans have been forced to get into the arena well before the main event.

The beer was ridiculously priced, as was the 'food' and merchandise. If your going to force fans to get into the arena a good 4 hours before the mian event then I'm afraid it's your duty to provide alternative entertainment before the fight - people who'd shown up to support Froch (and therefore Hennessey) were limited to the amount of drinks they could have, provided with awful food and had merchandise stalls where 1 t-shirt costs £30-00.

I'm not going to critiscise the main fight itself too much, as that can happen at any level of boxing. It's always a risk that 2 totally different boxing styles will make for a cat and mouse fight for 12 rounds. It was poor though.

The so called entertainment provided beforehand is where the main problem was.
