Did Dirrell get banned from HBO ?

Did Carl Froch just somehow invent the term "negative boxing" this weekend? I'd never heard the term before, and all of a sudden it's all over the place.

A lot about this fight is perception about who Dirrell and who Froch are and how this fight was supposed to go.
A while back Humberto Soto fought what was supposed to be an easy match against Benoit Gaudet. Gaudet was completely outmatched in the power and sturdiness department so he threw out his feather fists in combinations and ran and held and ran and ran and ran. And you know what - the same HBO commentators were praising him for surviving and actually making a fight of it instead of getting layed out like many of Soto's opponents.
The difference was that there were no expectations for Gaudet to do anything but fold like orginami so the fact that he lasted all of 9 rounds was considered "spirited" and "impressive".

 

I heard it used to describe Fraudley in that 3 round heavyweight tournament. There is precedent for the term.

 

If Froch invented the term it was in response to Dirrell inventing the concept.

Sounds better than Froch coming out with what most analysts were thinking which is "straight up *****"

true but you can also debate it as Dirrell dominated the first 2 minutes, personally I don't think Froch did enough in the last minute to cancel them out.. but 10 and 11 were probably his best rounds..

 

Check this link out relating to negativity in boxing - specifically in reference to Junior Witter. Makes some interesting points and also proves that the term "negativity" wasn't created especially for Dirrell. Witter was the champion employing negative tactics and it cost him his title.

"Negative" is a term used to describe a fighter who wins by rarely punching his opponent, and getting hit in return even more rarely. It makes for boring fights that no-one wants to see!

well atleast he can some glory being apart of this supersix.

 

I had Dirrell winning comfortably but I was thinking whilst watching live that he made Mayweather look like Gatti in terms of being a fan-friendly fighter.

 

Easy if you can't sleep at night just watch a fight with either Dirrell brothers or Peterson brothers and you will sleep like a baby in an instant, those guy even put a bat on sleep at night.
