I am not saying it is going to happen this way, but it could....Kessler knocks out Ward, I think that could very well happen. Maybe Ward gets battered for awhile before he is finished off. Then you got two guys fighting who just got knocked out. Ward and Taylor. Maybe Taylor can take out a confidence shot Ward.

Or what if Kessler / Ward is some kind of brutal war ala Vasquez / Marquez 3 ?

Taylor takes out a battle torn Ward and then a battle torn Kessler in round 3.

Moves into the semis with anywhere from four to six points.

Or, what if Ward drops out or Kessler does before the third round and Taylor gets fighters he can beat.

I think Jermain should stick around for the Ward fight. The momen is now. It won't come again. It would be foolish to retire and build himself back up slowly at this point.

If he gets blown out in the next one, retire. But there were some good things going for him during the Abe fight, Kessler himself said so, unless you think he was just BSing but I don't.

Kessler knocks out Ward. Ward bows out of tourney or has to face a revitalized Jermain, or Jermain gets Green, who he has a good shot at beating as well.

I hope Jermain sticks around. He is a class guy.

I think Taylor has a reasonable chance against Ward, especially - as you said - if Ward loses against Kessler. Therefore I would also advise him to stick around, at least for round two and see what he can do there.

Taylor's problem however is he has to face Kessler in the third round. He is certainly a huge underdog there. He will most likely end up with merely two points which will not be enough to advance to the semi-final.

Imagine when kessler is (most likely) unified champ and taylor (unlikely) beat ward by KO and then kessler by points?

Or imagine (very very small punchers chance) kessler lost to froch after beating ward then Taylor would go into a fight with both guys having lost....

Many scenarios but we have to wait and see what's happening in his head....I'm thinking he is waiting to see how the next fight with kessler/ward turns out

Taylor has to go for the KO against Ward to have a good chance of advancing I think.

I think Taylor has a severe confidence problem atm. For this reason alone I don't think he would beat anyone in this tourney. He already hesitated against AA on several occations.

Ward should be able to capitalize on this - if not.... Well.

    JT can definitely beat Ward.

By the time he gets to Kessler, Kessler will have fought Ward and Froch. While I don't expect either of them to trouble him much, it is boxing and anything can happen. It is possible, if not plausible, that JT could maneuver himself into the semis.

If Taylor stops now, it would be a very sad way to end his carrier. If the health is ok, he should take on the next fight. Ward in US should be big. Succesful in that fight, and then Kessler is next. This could very well be an unification fight for the WBA and WBC belts. If he should lose, he would end his carrier at the top though.

I agree that Jermain is a classy guy. That's why I hope he retires.

Do you honestly believe that Kessler will be more damaged after one ring war with Ward (IF that is even going to be a war) than Taylor after four losses in two years, two consecutive KO's and a concussion resulting in short - term memory loss?

It was kind of Kessler to say that some things were working for Taylor in the fight with Abraham. Classy guys like Kessler will always say stuff like that, it's a matter of being respectful. Honestly, the fight with Abraham was the first in Taylor's career was a strong case for Taylor to retire. It was the first Taylor fight I have seen where his early round firepower seemed lame. Sure, he won those rounds, but anyone can win those against Abraham. I think he landed one combination in the entire fight. Abraham has a great defense, yes, but so does Hopkins and the old Jermain was able to really trouble him in the early rounds. Most peopel felt before the Abraham fight that Jermain could still do great things if he could fix his stamina problems. He clearly had much improved stamina and yet he would have lost a decision.

I wish Jermain well and therefore I wish for him that he accepts that his best days as a fighter are over. It's not easy for an athlete to accept this, but in boxing, losing too often comes with a high price and I don't want him to pay that.

Imagine the outrage if Kessler unifies the belts against Froch Taylor loses to Ward, but somehow manage to irk out a points win over Kessler. Taylor having only gained two points doesn't make the semifinals, but leaves the tournament as unified champ :rofl

We still don't know the exact medical situation of Taylor, but he was released from the Hospital on Monday (Sunday?), so it might've been 'just' a concussion. He did okay up to the KO.

What really surprised me that both JT and DiBella stated that Jermain was in the best condition of his life, and given Taylor's comeback from the Pavlik KO (a close/debated decision loss in the rematch) and boxing well and looking okay post-Froch in the 12th vs. AA - and I'm trying to think with Lou's and JT's head here - they will say yes to the tournament once he's cleared medically. Taylor himself said the tournament is not over yet, and he's a tough dude who probably says to himself "I ran into a shot again, but I'll correct those mistakes next time".

Andre Ward is next who doesn't punch hard and hard-puncher Kessler is a boxer-first, so Taylor has already fought the 'puncher' in the round-robin stage. Jermain knows all this, good paydays are coming, and I think Showtime will put on some pressure to continue.

One thing I know for sure: DiBella and JT are close, so they won't make a stupid decision.
