I dont like Haye, but he would kill Joe at cruiser. I think Haye was the best cruiser since Holyfield.
It seems to me that many of you feel that Haye gets rid of Calzaghe in this matchup, but yet many of you have that aura of doubt in your posts. I just think of Jeff Lacy fight a lot. I remember before the fight how many were saying that Lacy hit harder than many heavyweights and how he was going to spark Joe with his power. I really think Joe not only survives the first four rounds with Haye, but stops him before the final bell rings in the match.
If you believe what you read about sparring sessions, Enzo used to land bombs on Calzaghe and he'd laugh them off. Calzaghe also used to drop Enzo in sparring sessions with body shots. I think if Joe moved up to 185-190lbs and did it in the same sort of way Hopkins/Jones Jr did when putting on weight, he's got all the skill to beat a guy like Haye.
it would be an interesting fight. Cal would need a fight or 2 at cruiser. Joe would be bouncing punches off hayes head all night, almost at will. Haye is not a good boxer and leaves himself wide-open, but does have the advantage in power. All you losers joke about calzaghes 'slaps' yet no one was ever able to walk thru them.
All of you "losers" like SAS2 need to get a reality check. There's a world of difference between 168lbs and 200lbs. Along with a world of difference between power of the two fighters as well. Haye was a devastating puncher at cruiserweight. Calzaghe is at best an average puncher at 168, and even less at 175. Haye would make Calzaghe his *****, Joe would have absolutely no advantage over Haye in a cruiserweight match...including speed. Calzaghe is not a skilled, slick boxer like Jones that can outbox his way to a decision ala Ruiz. He's a flurry, volume-driven fighter that leaves himself open to quick counters. While his chin held up against Kessler and Jones, I really doubt he would be able to take a flush Haye power punch and still be smiling. Given Joe Calzaghe's knack for being cold in the first round, and finding himself on the canvas in both of his 175 pound fights in that very first round, I wouldn't surprised if Haye unloads and takes him out in the first. This reminds me of the ridiculous talk about Joe Calzaghe vs Mike Tyson after the night he beat Lacy.
The wild eyed predictions are a bit out to lunch here. Joe's not going to any hospital. Right now he's retired and so it's a non issue. When he was fighting, I would have picked him over most of the cruiserwts of the time. But, while I am a Calzaghe fan, and I think Haye grows more ****y with every passing day, IMO, Haye would have been too much for Calzaghe.
This is just like the Jones vs Tyson thread, I like Calzaghe and I am the biggest Roy fan in the world, but the answer is no way!
