Taylor wasn't throwing and AA wasn't getting opportunities to put him out of position when he countered. So, he dropped his hands and drew Taylor's fire, then countered and stepped around him. It was a solid technique. Same as when he realised Taylor wasn't fighting with any plan in the 12th, just trying to survive - so Abraham controlled the ring and got Taylor out of poition, thinking he knew what AA would throw after the left hook. He was wrong. Abraham may get tired, but he never loses focus - he adjusts his gameplan so he's effective for all 12 rounds. He was beting the hell out of Taylor in the 12th.
keeping going to the left and taking his jab and straight right off him would work well enough just like hopkins done to pavlik. opening up the body around the guard. but that was if abs was as 1dimensional as pavlik. i am not a abs fan i dont like his turtle guard or the way he only fights 30 seconds a round but he is a ***** to hit and very good defensivly.
Marciano did employ this technique against LaStarza. But I don't see any Marcianos around. Just for fun, basically LaStarza before the second Marciano fight: This content is protected During: This content is protected
Fair point, though I wouldn't expect Taylor to have the pressure or strength to pull this kind of tactic off.
If u do something like dirrell did to froch and run away while catchin AA with flashy combos u may jus get a UD depending neutral venue
Even though Froch is slow, Abraham has no intention of getting out of the way, so it would be interesting to see what effect Froch's heavy punches would have on his shell.
he started to drop his hands because he was visibly tired. now had JT not wasted a huge amount of punches and energy on jabs to his gloves and fought a little smarter, he may have been able to capitalize later on in the fight. AA's a very strong and tough fighter, without a doubt. But when he fought JT i realized that when he gets in there with an elite who fights smart, picks his spots, and isn't going to be wasteful tapping his gloves while he's in his shell, he's gonna be in trouble. he seems to tire pretty easily for a guy who doesn't throw or move a whole lot.
froch doesn't really hit that hard man. definitely not hard enough to KO AA. his workrate might get to AA, but i don't think power is going to be much of an issue. that's an easy fight to call for me. AA by brutal KO.
Yeah, even though Froch has a good punch it doesn't mean he can hit AA like Miranda. But Froch is better than Miranda. Which doesn't say a lot, skill-wise.
Marciano used to do that sort of thing and I guess it might be a good tactic if you're a hard enough puncher and you employ a relentless attack with a high volume of punches... but like Boxed Ears said, I'm not sure I see anyone at 168 who fits that Marciano type style....... Maybe Librado Andrade? He doesn't fight quite like Marciano but he might be capable of smashing into Abrahama's arms for a sustained period of time. :think
Froch would tire himself out. Thats about it really. And AA would then employ the exact same run-of-the-mills tactic and batter him in the later rounds after he's worn out. Id give froch as much chance of beating AA as I would FMJ beating a Klit.
It's going to take someone very VERY good to do that. What elites are there around 160-168 with the qualities of a prime Sugar Ray Leonard? It's all about the body attack - step around, throw hooks behind the elbows and keep moving. Never let Arthur set, and don't stay in his range for any longer than neccesary. Abraham just has some nice little moves - he steps back as a shot lands on his guard and, if the opponent has doubled the jab, or thrown the right behind it, they sometimes over-extend or step right into Arthur's rnage with their hands lower than normal. Then he nails them and they never see it coming. The man's positioning and balance are first class too - he can stand inside his opponents range, stay calm and throw hard counters while his opponents is throwing.
This is exactly right. It'll take someone with quick feet and quick hands to throw around that guard and land consistent body shots to the sides and ribs. After time it might be enough to force Abraham to lower his hands often enough to land some leather on his head. Otherwise the only real option is counter-punching, and Abraham is extremely inconsistent with his punching volume. He fights in spurts. That makes it very difficult to rack up any kind of points with scoring counter-punches unless you do what JT did and just take rounds based on action and landing on his gloves and forearms.
I think to beat Abraham you need to do what Paul Williams did to Winky Wright....lots of punches from lots of angles and good movement. You need to keep a fast pace for the full 12 rounds and never ever think you can stop to admire your work. I think Andre Dirrell has the tools and the youth to do this.....but he does like to stop and admire his work and mistakes he got away with against Froch, he will pay dearly for against King Arthur!
I have said from the start Abraham is the winner of this tournament. If Froch faces Abraham, he better start sparring Bernard Hopkins to improve his defense. I don't care how solid Carl's chin is, if he gets caught like Taylor did, he will go! Abraham is quicker than he is given credit. This man is a warrior & will prove himself to be the best of the bunch!
