I just went back to rewatch the fight. His weight was on him but that right hand hit Tyson with total ko force, not to mention Tyson was turning straight into the punch. The push/lean was just perhaps an extra force, Tyson was going down anyway. Either way, the push does not explain (and the punch does) why Tyson couldn't get back up once he hit the floor.
Yes of course. Even Lennox said after the Tyson fight that Tyson was at his best at a young age and that nobody could stop him then, but that he (LL) matured and got better as he got older and nobody could stop him now (that was then). Btw, that post fight interview, first class act from everybody! My favourite part of the fight, along with Highlights of Tyson eating bombs of course.
Agreed, as I said earlier it was a brutal KO punch, I cant see alot of people not going down from that. I think Tyson would have gotten up or possibly wouldnt even go down if it happened earlier, but with all that beating and fatigue he had no chance. And why would he? To get beaten up even more? :-(
Yeah, wiping something away from Lewis's eye?? :blood "Hey, I'll eat your ****ing children.....hold on Lennox you've got something on your face, let me get that for you". I'm sure Violet would have got stuck in if thing turned nasty. :deal
Yes, Tyson was pushed to the canvas. You won't get any arguments on that. Thing is he was already out on his feet after the right hand landed and all Lewis did was nudge him to the floor rather than nailing Tyson with one or two more shots on the way down. He might have gone down anyway without the extra shove and something tells me Tyson would have preferred the push to a few extra shots off his dome.
Lewis fought dirty in this fight. Holding, pushing, leaning. I give Lewis credit for the win, but nowhere as much as he thinks this victory was worth to his legacy. Edging a prime Vitali in a competitive fight is worth 10x more than leaning and holding a washed up Tyson to a TKO IMO.
BS. Lewis held and leaned on Tyson like crazy. He had a point deducted against Tyson in round 4 for excessive holding. Compare that fight to his win over Tua. A true boxing clinic. A masterpiece. Lewis thinks he cemented his ATG status with the win over Tyson and argues that was his best fight. I think one couldn't even rate the Tyson fight among his three best wins.
If anyone wants to change the books to reflect TKO instead of KO due to a push, I wouldn't object. It may not have cemented anything boxing wise, but it spared us endless "Lewis ducked Tyson cuz he thought he'd get Rahman'd" threads, which in and of itself seals Lewis' ATG status to me.
onr thing you guys cant forget..... at least tyson took his beating like a man....after all the people he ko'd in the first round and ko'd in general when it was his turn he took his beating like a man because that is his job and he got the bad end of the stick that day.....i have more respect than ever for him just because of that... unlike cotto......who took a knee and said he has a family to think about.....so why are you in boxing?
