When you think about the matchup, Machida should dominate Shogun. But at the same time, Liddell should have also according to matchup.

Machida is very focused on his discipline, which happens to be quite focused on countering and taking advantage of offensive mistakes.. Muay Thai, as it is practiced in MMA is an offensive, aggressive style, which plays right into what Machida does. Stylewise, this is Machida's fight to lose. Shogun, in the past has shown he is very dynamic, and relentless when he has opponents hurt. This is going to be a fight about who catches, or counters who first. One way or another it ends in knockout or stoppage.

He was the first, ((I think)) to beat Rich Frankln...also crushed Bonner..He has a strong list of fighters that he has beaten. So NO I don't feel he is over rated.

I think people are overstating his "greatness" in terms of legacy and accomplishments so far; not that he can't fulfill them, just that they are projecting what they think will happen rather than what has.

I don't think he's overrated really, just that people are jumping the gun a little bit with things like "welcome to the Machida era.". There might very well be a long dominate era ahead, and people want to be seen as recognizing that early or predicing it, so they project his ability out over a long time, but this is MMA and he still needs to actually do it.

Machida is almost superhuman, When I see some1 like Machida iam amazed at the gift they seem to have in being able to think and react the way they do in the situations they are in, BJ i see this in most of the time (deff not against GSP it was obvious before the fight BJ was not right) I also see it in Anderson Silva! MACHIDA IS SOMETHING SPECIAL!

He could of at least added to the thread.

Emotes should be banned from this forum. First of all, they're all ****, and second of all, the people who use them need to be burnt to ****ing cinders.

Added to the thread? It's my thread, there is nothing more to add to it. Machida was being overrated, he's not even the best light heavyweight. Shogun just beat him at his own game. Now start putting shogun in the top 4 P4P, since hes the same size as machida....but better

He took an ATG - the vintage version of Shogun - to a 5 round decision and still made a fight of it. So how exactly is he over rated? He's a fantastic fighter, one of the very best

Machida isnt so much overrated, it was Shogun getting his old form back more than anything negative concerning Machida.

I was amazed how many knowledgeable guys were picking Machida by easy stoppage, Shogun Rua is one of the greatest 205 lbers that has ever lived, very well rounded & dangerous.

It will be he & not Machida that dominates the LHWTs in the near future I believe.

15 wins against top competition (Franklin, Silva, Ortiz, Evans) don't make you suddenly overrated when the second-best LHW in the world beats you. Don't believe that all other contenders can emulate what Shogun did last night. Machida will adapt and learn.
