What are your FOTD from the 60's to the 00's? Please pick one fight, and a runner up for each decade.
60's: im not too sure 70's: Ali vs Foreman Ali vs Frazier 3 80's: Hagler vs Leanard Hagler vs Hearns 90's: Chavez vs Taylor Holyfield vs Bowe 00's: Corrales vs Castillo 1 Morrales vs Barrera Edit: in the 2000's i watch more fights than other decades so Vazquez marquez, margo vs cotto, and gatti ward aswell could be added
60´s:Joe Frazier-Quarry 70's:Mathew Saad Muhamad-Marvin Johnson II Danny Lopez-Mike Ayala 80's: Roberto Duran-Ray Leonard Chacon-Edwards II 90's: Arturo Gatti-Ivan Robinson Marco Antonio Barrera-Kenedy Mckinney 00's: Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo
As far as the 60's are concerned, the only thing that comes to my mind is the Clay/Liston fight because Clay shocked the boxing world by beating Liston for the title. The bigger shocker was Clay knocking Liston out w/ one punch in the 1st round where a lot of people say Liston took a dive.
1960's: Ali-Liston 1 1970's: Ali-Frazier 3 (runner Up: Ali-Frazier 1) 1980's: Hearns-Leonard 1 (runner up: Arguello-Prior 1) 1990's: Holyfield-Bowe 3 (runner up: Chavez-Taylor 1) 2000's: Castillo-Corrales 1 (runner up: Pacquiao-Morales 1)
I think Ali-Frazier 3 is the best of all time, if you take into account historical signifigance, entertainment, skill level and the quality of fighters on show. From a pure entertainment perspective, Corrales-Castillo 1 is the best, IMO.
60´s: Joe Frazier vs Jerry Quarry 70's:Mathew Saad Muhamad-Yaqui Lopez II Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier III 80's: Alexis Arguello vs Aaron Pryor I Roberto Duran vs Iran Barkley 90's: Michael Carbajal vs Humberto Gonzalez I Marco Antonio Barrera-Kennedy Mckinney 00's: Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo
Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield I was far and away the best fight of their trilogy, and arguably the greatest Heavyweight title fight of all time. Why anyone would pick their rubber match over it has just become one of life's many unknown mysteries.
60's Ali vs Liston 1 70's Ali vs Frazier 3 80's Hagler vs Hearns 90's Tua vs Ike (one of the most underrated fights maybe ever) Runner up imo is Bowe vs Holyfield 1 2000's Corrales vs Castillo 1
i 100 pct agree with rayhogan and would pick same fights as he did dont understand bladerunner silly aggressivity for me the best of all times is hagler hearnsin 1985
60's:frazier-quarry 1 runner up: patterson-johansson 1 70's:ali-frazier 3 runner up:ali-frazier 1 80's:hearns-leonard 1 runner up:chacon-edwards 2 90's:gatti-rodriguez runner up:gatti-robinson 1 00's:gatti-ward 1/corrales-castillo 1(cant split them,bit of a cop out i know!) runner up:vazquez-marquez 3
i think ali-farzier 1 is the better fight---there was a knockdown (and a spectacular one at that) and they were both younger and in their prime window.....manilla is an incredible fight and IMO a close second, but the first one they were both undefeated, young and their antipathy was at its' highest undiluted by years of festering and other tough fights (Foreman took a lot out of both of them)..
