I think this would have been a great matchup.

Reason I made this fantasy fight is that I think we tend to underrate Benitez and overrate Floyd.

I cant see this matchup favoring Floyd at all, yet Benitez to some is nowhere near Floyd in terms of ATG,

Benitez had equal defensive capabilities and clearly superior firepower. I cannot get around it.

I'm sure many fools will pick Floyd, but Benitez beats him hands down.

Chimba, great poll and thread... This is one for people who really know boxing deep inside and are not just a fan. They are both super fast and had a great defense. I would favor Benitez because he is naturally bigger and stronger than Floyd however, this is not an easy match for neither guy.

I just brought this up out of curiosity just because I felt as if Benitez doesnt belong in Floyds level now. Put it this way, if this guy is around today, I mean who beats him?

Im a New York guy and this man was a ****in legend in the ring and at the dance floor.

My officemate whos Boriqua said that Benitez trained for 3 days for Duran lol, he hated to train

This guy was such a defensive genius that he moves his head an inch or so to avoid punches, when most great defensive fighters prefer to duck to make people miss

Not dogging Floyd at all, the man has immense talent but damn..I dont think these two are far apart, I mean Benitez resume's killer.

But when you talk about some modern day ATGs, Im pretty sure most will have Floyd ahead of Benitez. My question is why? There is either some underrating or overrating going on.

BENITEZ DIDN'T HAVE EQUAL DEFENSIVE CAPABILITIES....:nono

HE HAD MORE POWER THOUGH AND I THINK HE COULDA GIVEN FLOYD A HARD TIME IF HE WOULD HAVE MADE THE FIGHT PHYSICAL....FIGHT IS CLOSE AND COULD GO EITHER WAY......BUT HELL NO HIS DEFENSE WASNT NEARLY SIMILAR TO FLOYDS

Benitez, at his best, was a tough nut to crack. Even though his defensive capabilities were always obvious, utilizing great upper body movement and footwork, when he did throw shots they were with mean intentions. He'd commit to his shots, and that always made him dangerous. He had a great left hook which he'd often double up on, and his right hand was vicious.

Benitez peaked at 154lbs, and is the bigger combatant. But will that really be a factor considering both fighters are defensive geniuses? Both fight well off the ropes, both have fast hands and utilize impressive footwork. What will make the difference in my estimation will be Benitez's willingness to throw harder shots than Floyd. Both have great right hand leads too, with Mayweather's being faster, whereas Benitez's would hit with more impact. It's a tough one, but I'll go with Benitez a SD over 12 and 15. A hard fight to score, not a lot of shots landing, just Benitez's size and more frequent attack being the difference.

...only if it made business sense :!:

That's what Floyd would have done anyway.
