As a conventional fighter, how often do you use the left uppercut? For me, it is very akward to throw, and I don't feel I've got it down pat yet. Is it an effective punch, and do you have any tips on perfecting it?

i use it quite often actually. however, i'm a left handed orthodox fighter so it comes more naturally to me. i'm guessing you're right handed so nature is out of the question. treat it like any other punch, train it more. one thing my coach likes to do from time to time is have boxer A only use a certain hand and boxer B only use a certain hand. helps keep you thinking and forces you to use that hand more often.

Margarito is another guy with an awesome left uppercut.

I was like the OP it felt awkward and not natural to me at first so I didn't throw it. But I wanted to really focus on throwing all of my punches, and I just kept working at it and it got better.

I either throw it after a jab, a right, a left hook to the body or else lead with it.
