You have a point, but fights were selling before 24/7, so I figured that people who don't like it would rather see it off the air altogether. The show is interesting, but it's not like boxing popularity soared once it began airing. I view 24/7 more as a special treat for boxing fans than promotion.
that last poll choice is pointless, simply because 24/7 only does the biggest fights. secondly, to get rid of the show would be to essentially get rid of boxing's newest, and biggest hype machine to come along since the aura of the Mike Tyson of the late 80's. it's a great show that sheds light on the personalities of future legends, and builds the much needed anticipation for the big fights that is the lifeblood of boxing, and which has been lacking for well over a decade all around. I don't see the point of getting rid of 24/7. I cant speak for the entire world, but Manny Pacquiao wouldn't be a known athlete on my american college campus if it weren't for 24/7, nor would Floyd Mayweather. On another note, floyd wouldnt be as big either, because the only way he made the transition to dancing with the stars and wwe was from the notoriety he gained on 24/7. these things made him a household name. His fight against Marquez grossed more money than the UFC pay per view being aired on the same night. 24/7 was undoubtedly the catalyst for this surge of success. it would be an epic commercial failure for HBO to can 24/7 at this point, no question.
I love 24/7 and hope it never ends. :thumbsup One thing that I think is missing is an actual talk show. I would love to see HBO invest in a show with perhaps Lampy and/or Kellerman as the host(s) reviewing past and upcoming fights in which analyst and predictions would be provided. It would be like an HBO version of FNF's and like FNF's, the show could feature various guests such as past and present fighters, trainers, and writers. A weekly show might be a bit ambitious but a monthly show I think would work.
Good insight :yep You'll see smaller details and behind the scene things that can't be found in the regular news coverage.
To me, 24/7 does nothing in terms of giving me insight into a fight of who is taking it more serious. Remember, they are in front of the cameras and are well aware of when things are being taped, so its up to them to put on whatever antics (or not) they feel is necessary to SELL the fight. On that note, HBO will ensure they show the viewer whatever material they feel is best to sell the upcoming PPV, thats why they and their partners are investing in it. That includes making it appear like they are not as focused when they are the heavily favored or simply eat **** and **** for the sake of one's psyche. Most of these guys, the ones that are at the top level I'm referring to, have been fighting for years and have been doing what they do successfully for years. One 24/7 show isn't going to change that. Yes, they may add new additional nutrition/conditioning coach to assist with some supplementary things here and there, but the core of their regimen usually will remain the same. With that said, I see it as a big infomercial wisely disguised under the high quality hbo production and sometimes charismatic or annoying characters.
I like the show. They could do less episodes though, like 3 for each fight (I think they had 3 for RJJ-Calzaghe).
They should have more 24/7 even for lesser fights that may'be won't be on PPV. It would bring more insight to other Boxers. I love the 24/7's I really don't know y some people are whining about the 24/7's. Some fights may not need a 24/7, like this one (because this will do massive numbers) but I love it anyway. The more the marrier.
