The third sentance is the shocker!! "Many of his title fights were controversial, particularly the fights against Robin Reid , Byron Mitchell and Mads Larsen. Many reporters thought Ottke had lost those fights. He was also told the scorecards throughout the fights while his opponents were not, and he only fought once outside Germany (in Austria)." Why should any foreign fighter go to Germany??
Teddy Atlas talked about having "spies" near the judges in his book, so I guess it's not just a Euro thing.
Ottke was a douchebag, I never liked him. I was excited like a fat kid in a chocolate store when Mundine was dancing around him for a few rounds, making Ottke look like was in trouble. Until Mundine was KTFOd by a short punch to the chin.
His location means **** all. I'm a proud American, but not so proud to believe Germany is the only place with a dodgy history of fight scoring.
Yeah, Ottke was heavily protected. But the scorecard thing is nothing unusual to be honest. In 2006 for example, Laurence Cole told Juan Manuel Marquez, who was cut over the eye and was going to be checked by the doctor, that he's ahead on the cards. It was the Jimrex Jaca fight in Texas. No spy or anything: the referee himself walked to Marquez, covered his mic (shitty job there, lol) and told Marquez it's safe to give up the fight because he'd win by technical decision.
If you're American, why are you constantly throwing out common British phrasings like "**** all" and "dodgy"??
That's German promotion for ya. Look at the Williams v Airich fight, Ahmet Oner ran the bell with a minute and a half left in the round because Airich was badly hurt.
