Forget out-boxing him. He can do that, but he runs some risk trying to get in and out and getting caught. Use the head-movement, footwork just enough to get in and out but no long term business on the outside and playing around. For the most part he just needs to smother him. His arms are shorter, he's shorter. Forget loading up, if he sees the chance yes but if he smothers Valuev he can just go blazing him combos and body shots. If he smothers he really limits Valuevs power and limits the threat of a big bomb. Haye if he has the stamina can really get to Valuev like that. The only thing though, is the risk of Valuev leaning on Haye to tire him. In that case, he needs to adjust and try boxing on the outside a bit more. There are pros/cons to both methods, but I feel if Haye smothers, moves, smothers he will be very successful. Most of that movement has to be lateral. He can't get caught up in jumping too much and jumping out too much/too fast because he runs the risk of getting hit and hurt. Haye's chin is a big question. The only other worry is his stamina but I'd imagine it's superior to Valuev's. Haye will be able to throw far more punches, he just can't let Valuev lean and drain his energy reserves. What tactic/strategy do you believe Haye should employ. Box in and out. Get inside that reach, hit and move or try getting head by chest and just smothering Valuev?
Hit and Move. He should watch Floyd Mayweather and attempt to emulate that style. He's never going to be as good at it as Floyd is, but owing to the slowness of Valuev, he could make it work. In my view if he tries anything else, he's going to be beaten. Valuev has no shortage of stamina for his size, what he does in Round 1, he does in Round 12, he's also strong, if not a powerful hitter and will break fighters down who remain within reach of him. Haye with known stamina issues, won't want 300lbs weighing down on him anytime he gets close. I personally have Valuev winning this by late TKO, I don't see what Haye can do to stop it.
This imo is the biggest factor in the fight. Does Haye possess the foot speed to get in and out of range? In the past Haye has also had a tendancy to go backwards in straight lines. He's been caught by Fragomeni and Mormeck doing this. He needs to improve his lateral movement if he's to keep away from Valuevs' reach.
I think Haye is going to destroy Valuev He will be able to get on the inside as Holyfield did successfully vs Valuev, and when he does he will land 3-4 devastating hooks/uppercuts. He will then probably move out and circle once more. He has the reflexes and speed to avoid Valuevs jabs, and will pick the right moment to move in and get to work, then back out and circle. He also has the speed to counter valuev with single shots although i think he will employ combos on the inside more to make sure he gets close enough to hit Valuev. I think Haye will break him down in shocking style, and stop him. Haye has a lot of power, a lot of speed, a lot of accuracy and will clock Valuev constantly in the fight. I think he will hurt Valuev badly in every round. The only thing Valuev has is a lucky punch, or incredible punch resistance which will allow him to be hit more than ever and tire Haye in the last couple of rounds this way, then lean on him and knock him out that way.
I agree, he needs to hit and move. If he gets into smothering match Valuev's weight will eventually wear down Haye, whose known to have stamina issues. Nonetheless, this should be very interesting fight. Plus Haye has repeatedly made the issue of Valuev having really bad hygiene, so it's unlikely he'll get into a smothering match:yep
haye is a smart guy, you can bet he has a gameplan. i actually think this fight comes down to how aggressively valuev fights, and what don king has planned
Haye does need to clinch on the inside if he is getting hit too often but he shouldn't clinch too often or Valuev's body will wear him out. Haye can move around and land a right hand every so often and get in and out and he can win a decision. It's just up to David Haye and his trainer team.
Agreed. A very bad idea. If Haye tries to smother Valuev, Valuev is going to lean 300lbs+ on him, and Haye will lose energy FAST.
It seems like a bad idea but if Haye is in shape he has virtually no chance to lose (Well a slim one). Similarly the way it worked for Ruiz.
You should take a peek at a few of Valuev's fights. He doesn't hesitate to push people off. I can't see how Haye would smother the big man. Really his best chance is speed and footwork. Hopefully for Haye he has improved his footwork or it will be a rough night for him.
Haye needs to be on his bicycle the whole night. Valuev got a pretty good jab when he decides to throw it, so should be aware of that on the outside. As far as Haye smothering him, why? He's an athletic guy with speed and power, he should look to land from the outside. Even if he does get on the inside, Valuev is a terrible clincher, he lays very little of his 328 pounds on his oppenents. So Haye could get away with being on the inside as well if chooses to. I like Haye alot in this fight.
