you were doing quite well against the spaniards? only in your dreams. in fact, throughout most of your history, you've been passed around between foreign powers like a little well worn *****! if it weren't for us americans, you would have never gained your independence because the united states defeated the spanish, owned you as a colony, lost it to the japs and when they defeated the japs they took control over you until they gave you your independence in the late 1940's. you were like a hot potato getting tossed around from power to power. so don't act as if you were declaring your independence from anybody cause throughout your history, your independence has BEEN GIVEN to you by the controlling foreign power at the time!
