Tonights Canvas Classic is Roy Jones v Virgil Hill.
Is this the bodyshot of the century?

Good to see Dave Sands and Jimmy Carruthers up for nomination in the Hall of Fame (US).

We are going to dust off and replay our Dave Sand's 80th birthday special from 2006 to commemorate this nomination.

We're also planning a Carruthers special before the end of the year.

I had a quick look at Carruthers record.

The crowds in his final 5 bouts before his first retirement in 1953 were 28,000, 35,000, 32,500, 9000, 69,819. An extraordinary 35,000 average.

In his first 2 comeback bouts 7 years later in 1961 the crowds were 13,000 and 12,300.

That sort of drawing power shows what a special champion Jimmy was.

Amazing stuff DSS! The Thais toward the back of the 70,000 strong crowd must have been squinting hard to see the action.

Real pity Jimmy did make the comeback, but it's well documented he needed the money for a business venture (to buy a pub?) and thought that was the only way he could make the dough.

Around 7.30pm tonight on the SS show Peter Fitzsimons, the Author of the Ballad of Les Darcy, will redeliver the speech he made to commemorate the elevation of Les Darcy to Legend status.

It is one of the greatest pieces of oratory you are likely to hear about a much misunderstood Australian hero.
