Kessler representative claims Kessler was hampered by damaged hand vs Calzaghe!

First of all i am not the right person to comment the up comers of danish boxers. A lot of others good boxing fans from Denmark, Sweden and Iceland would be better of!.

But danish professional boxing is - Mogens Palle. Like him or not - he is boxing in Denmark. Going on strong for 50 years - and now in the Hall of Fame.

Palle started very young. Promoted boxing like a circus director - had a show every 1 or 2 month in every little or big town in Denmark. That was before the television. When that took over the scene, he made som massive deals, and shows with up to 5-10 very good talented danish fighters in every show. The Golden age of boxing 1980 - 2005: Like Old Jørgen Hansen, Hans Henrik Palm, Ayou Kalule, Gert Bo Jacobsen, Lars Lund Jensen, Racheed Lawal (RIP), Eyup Can, Jimmi and Johnny Bredahl, Søren Søndergaard, Brian Nielsen, Jesper D Jensen, Mads Larsen, Dennis Holbæk, Thomas Damgaard, Rudy Marcussen and Mikkel Kessler.

All very protected and paid a lot of money to secure them the "big dollar fight" That was the goal, the fighter could end his carrier then - simple as that.


Palle did promoted/secured the title fights like :

The last 10 years Palle had to fight for tv-rights. And he did **** on some of the stations and they did shut him down. Lossing a lot of fans and spectators. Palle at the same time was promoter for the most profitible fighter in Kessler on his hands. But all the other fighters and the common wiewers were gone, and slowly Kessler, who now foughts on PPV, outgrowes Palle.

Kessler biggest fighter Denmark ever has - professional boxing in Denmark at its absolutly low.................. :-(

 

The hand injory cant be spotted in the fight.. offcourse not.. 60 thousand people will make you forget..

Tho.. Kessler missed his sparring up to the fight.. He was worried about the hand.. So he lost a bit focus on calzaghe, and wasnt 100% ready...

I see it differently.

Take Mundine for example. He's a cocky twat who always calls himself the best, etc. Yet when he got beat by Manny Siaca he conceded there and then that he tried to mix it up with him but the guy was too big, etc.

Same to when he got beat by Kessler. He was fairly humble actually, yet later on when he gets all his 'yes men' talking to him, the confidence starts to come back.

I think Kessler knew that the injury wouldn't have mattered, thus his open comments after the fight. It wasn't until weeks or months later when everyone around him was probably feeding him talk about how he would have won bar the injury that he started to use it as an excuse.
And lets face it, boxing is a sport that requires the elite to be super confident, and anyone is always looking for excuses to use as to why they aren't the best.

 

But as I said earlier...
I still like Kessler and think he's a great fighter. But the hand excuse just left a sour taste in my mouth.

 

The reason Calzaghe ''''''''''avoided'''''''''' a rematch was down to the fact that B-hop didn't turn up to fight in the first 1. I'm to some degree a Hopkins fan and was in awe watching him against Pavlik. But against Calzaghe he was a disgrace, as was Joe 'firm but bent' cortez.

 

the problem right now is, that the big promoter palle, has been involved in a lawsuit with a tv company, which he by the way won and is lining up a lawsuit against kessler.

So palle has not been promoting any shows. We dont really have any standout talents, but the thing is, that the fighters in denmark are nurtured and promoted the right way, so they get the chance to develop their skils in the right tempo. So eventhough they at first, might not seem like a serious prospect, they could eventually develop into a good fighter.

With a population of aprox 5.6 million, that way of doing it, is really a necessity.

 

Kessler fought a great fight, no point making excuses for him.

 

There's this young (18 yo) middleweight prospect Patrick Reinhardt Nielsen who's been sparring with Kessler in Berlin. Haven't seen him myself, but people say he's pretty talented. He's to sign with Sauerland soon.

 

You have to give Kessler credit. Despite the hand injury it was a very close fight and he didn't offer it as an excuse after the fight like most guys would. A classy guy.

torben keller also did well in a previous tournament, was it at the euro´s or world championship..? i believe he got a medal, if i remember correctly.

 

It was the world championships. He got eliminated in the quarterfinals by Jack-Culcay Kuth (German).

 

Torben Keller was placed 5th at the amateur WC

 

He looked exactly the same after the Bika fight. It was not that he felt he lost, he just didn't enjoy the fight. He didn't feel Hopkins deserved the rematch and neither do I. He made the point that no-one wanted to see that fight and was right....Calzaghe Jones made more money.
