What makes you say Jeffries had power in both hands? From what i've read, all of his knockouts came from the left. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Also, what Brewster body jabs are you talking about? He landed nearly nothing during the first 4 rounds, except for one body shot. Wlad punched himself out, simple as that. Against, by the way, someone with a proven chin against 210+lbs talented heavyweights, unlike Jeffries.

    Different eras.

Jeffries never showed he could handle the type of power Wlad possesses, and was reportedly hurt by smaller men. Wlad also has more speed, the range/height, technical ability and jab that is hard to get past. If Wlad opens up Jeffries gets KO'd because Jeffries was easy to hit and wouldnt have the durability for this kind of power, however he might just do the Ruiz type thing hes been doing recently and win a UD.

Having said all that Jeffries may have been a better fighter in the modern era, bigger/stronger, better schooled etc, but Jeff the way he is gets taken out

    :patsch :yikes

    Is that a typo? :yep

I am very sorry, but this may be a nomination for the worst comment ever by a non trolling poster.

One of these fighters was hurt by smaller fightersand never proved themself against larger fighters! But i will let you guess which one.
Here is a reminder for your assistance:

Lamon Brewster 6 2 Weight against Vlad226 Lightest Fighting weight (before steroids, laziness and burger king took effect)213.5
    Corrie Sanders 6 4 WAV -225 LFW - 208
    Ross Purity 6 3 WAV - 249 LFW - 234

    James Jeffries 6' 3 215 - 225
    Sam Peter 6 2 243 229

It is true that one of these fighters had very little experience with fighting fighters who outweighed them and may have been largely unproven while fighting bigger fighters.

Again to remind you, Wlad was outweighed on about 3 or 4 occassions.

Apparently when he faces bigger fighters with the good chins he has to be careful not to punch himself out. Was Wlad outweighed in the Purity match.

Incidentally, one of these fighters relied almost solely on their size advantage to win fights and usually had 15 -30lb advantage. Oh hang on is that a typo. Maybe it should have read Both.

When fighting fighters that are of a comparable size and nature to themselves ie within 3 inches or so of themselves and within about 10-20 lbs, one of these guys proved themselves and was never knocked down let alone out while the other had their fair share of knockdowns. Which was which again?

And finally while we are on the subjects of weight, one of these fighters has never fought a big punching and skilled light heavyweight, but their best win is a former middleweight, who pretty much finished their career getting KOd against an average light heavyweight. Guess which one this was.

Jeffries fought one man within 18lbs of himself Ruhlin.
Ruhlin lost 7 of his 35 fights ,and, was kod in 5 of them once in one round by Sharkey.
Ruhlin was beaten over 20rds by Kid McCoy who scaled 167lbs.

Ruhlin had a 41% ko record ,so though I think Jeffries could handle super heavyweight power he never did.
Jeffries was 6' 2'' at most.

I think Wlad takes it. Jeffries was a good fighter for his time and considered to be a giant for his day but it sounds somewhat like the "Big fish in a small pond" scenario. If men like Fitzimmons and Sharkey and Choyinski could reach him consistently and do damage then Wlad, is CONSIDERABLY larger could do so as well with probably more damage. As the decades wore on in boxing we began to see more quality big men come along especially with the advent of the 60's and the coming of men like Liston and especially Ali. It's no coincidence that we haven't seen a 6' 180lb champion since Marciano or a middleweight like Fitzimmons competing in the Heavyweight ranks anymore. Not that Jeffries was small. He wasn't. But he didn't have to compete in an era that contained a plethora of big skilled HW's who employed the use of the JAB. Jeffries style was consistent of the fighter of his day who had to fight anywhere from 20 to 45 rounds with smaller gloves. Circle, pose, paw, wait for an opening, throw 1 maybe 2 shots then clinch. When the referee breaks repeat the sequence. Jeffries reminds a bit of John Ruiz in that regard but his style would be problematic against a big modern heavy who jabs ala Ali, Holmes, Lewis, Holyfield and yes Wlad. I'm not saying that Jim has no chance but styilistically speaking he's at a disadvantage...and a big one at that.

Jeffries had one punch KO power, mostly with the left, but he did end a few fights with the right. In fact most of his opponents fell face forward.

Brewster landed a vicious body shot or two. This might have turned the tides in his favor. Hard to tell. Something looked off with Wlad that night.

When it comes to fantasy fights, I try not to rate the era, rather I rate the man int he match ups, and think how he would do under either rule set...with or without modern training techniques.

Chagaev was shorter, had less reach, less foot speed, and less agility in comparison to Jeffries. There is your difference. I simply said Chagaev could be a contender in most eras, and let's be frank here, Chagaev is a pretty decent heavyweight.

While Wlad did a flawless paint job on Chagaev, he would have his work cut for Jeffries.

By the way, a fatter and more past his prime Munore went the distance with Johnson, so he could not be all that bad.

    Wlad

Size, and Strength would be huge. No one of that time can compare to Wlads size and strength. Throw on top of it Wlads athleticisim, and modern training methods alone he has a huge advantage. JJ was a very good athlete from what i read but 1900's athlete and todays athlete are just night and day. Not to mention Wlads jab and ability to control the ring and circle his opponents until hes ready to drop some right hands on their heads.

In the end i give JJ a punchers chance that he can get that one shot (all it takes) in there. But id bet for a Wlad KO around 5-6

You are of course correct (though i think Ruhlin was not nearly as bad as you are implying). I dont have a problem with a Wlad selection, he has some advantages and i havent even considered the fight and how it might pan out. dont forget that Ruhlin (all figures boxreced only) had about a 12lb weight differential in their first fight.Corbett, Armstrong, Everett, Jackson, and goddard were all decent sized heavyweights where the size discerepancy was no worse than say Vlad vs Byrd.

We know Jeffries chin stacks up to heavyweight power, you may argue that it is untested against superheavies. Vlad's chin failed the test against fighters who cant really be considered Super heavyweights. In fact he has losses to three heavyweights who were roughly the same size as Jeffries. Therefore common sense suggests that Vlad's chin will not Stand up to Jeffries power (not that he cant get around this by using boxing and clinching skills as that is a different question). Jeffries chin which was never dented at all, may not stand up to super heavy power, but there is no evidence to indicate this and if you are suggesting it it really is just a blind hope that it doesnt. If Wlad fans want to show that he will win, they will need to rely on more than a hope that he has a better and more proven chin, because he doesnt and cannot be said to.

I find it interesting that if we use the Jeffries that came back against Johnson and the Wlad that lost to Purity, Jeffries would actually be the heavyer fighter.

alot of people went the distance with johnson, simply because that was his style. he would beat them systematically for fun if anything, i think you would make more of a descent rebuttle if he went the distance and didn't get thrashed every single round.

Chagaev isnt totally useless, but nothing special,I said before the Klitschko fight he would be outclassed, what pissed me off was he setttled for surviveing, like Tua against Lewis.
    I haven't made a pick yet.

I don't think Jeffries was a one punch ko artist, and his record supports my opinion. He could hit allright but he was no Louis ,Baer,Marciano,Liston, Foreman.

Lots of men went the distance with Johnson who ,on paper should not have,he rarely went for the ko.
If you put common opponents to him and Jeffries ,I would expect Jeffries to have more stoppages out of them.
Johnson was satisfied to make a fool out of an opponent ,if he was in no danger of being stopped himself.
