The idea he ran because he's scared of his 'glass jaw' being shattered is ludicrous in the extreme and displays a complete lack of knowledge. As if none of Haye's opponents have been able to punch hard. I thought Valuev was featherfisted anyway...?

It's far more likely that Haye followed the blueprint to beat Valuev, give the guy angles and make him move, because thats what he lacks. Valuev is not athletic, he's a huge guy, he doesn't move well. That's what Haye did.

Sadly, people would have preferred if he stood infront of Valuev and got KO'd, hey, he would have proven you all right if he did that, eh? But because he didn't get knocked out and used movement he ran because he has a glass jaw :rofl The logic is unbelievable.

Well, let me say this - as I said before - you guys COULD be right. It IS possible that his punch resistance problems at CW were the result of weight-draining and that at HW he will prove to be able to take a better punch. All I am saying is that we can't conclusively assert this YET however. What I do dispute is this idea that fighting Valuev, or Ruiz, doesn't REALLY provide us with the necessary litmus test to assert definitively that this is the case.

Now, as to the issue of the hand injury. Yeah, I think that certainly could be a factor in Haye's tentativeness, although this is belied somewhat by his atypical (in THIS fight) aggression in the 12th. In sum, if the hand was so bad, why didn't he engage more like he did in the final round. At least SOMEWHAT? The size difference didn't appear to preclude him enagaging when it suited his purposes. He should have done more of it, and could have too - because Valuev is a horrendously inept arm puncher who doesn't hit particularly hard anyway. Clearly something was making him nervous and tentative.

I would put Haye's chin probably on a similar level to Michael Moorer's !

i didn't think it was in dispute whether hayes chin is questionable. the man has admitted it himself.

now, the question is whether he can use tactics and an improved defence to compensate for the weak chin, and so far he has.

Weight draining definetly affects punch resistance and we know for a fact that the fights Haye struggling with most, he showed a poor chin. For example, he cut an extra 20lbs against Mormeck, than he did against Maccarinelli. He took a few good shots of Maccarinelli, but not Mormeck, who dropped him. There is a definite correalation between the amount Haye drained and his punch resistance.

Oh and what happened to this, Zak?

It's wrong that you claim someone will knock Haye out and then after the fight, dismiss them. If Haye fights and beats Vitali, without being hurt, are you going to say "Wait until he fights a hard hitting, technically gifted prime heavyweight like Wlad!"? Or if he beats Wlad next will you say "Wait until he fights a man with a great chin like Vitali! He'll get starched!"? If he fights Tua, will you say "Wait until he fights either Klitschko! KTFO!!!!"?

Becuase if he didn't knock Valuev out, then he would have risked hurting his hand more, which he still used sporadically, for the last few rounds, had he gone for the kill earlier. Or he would have possibly punched himself out earlier. Plus, he really had nothing to lose by going for it in the last round, unlike if he had gone for the knockout earlier.

His size was something Haye had no experiance of. His trainer was using high heels bought from a bondage shop, for ****s sake. If he fought differently, that may be why...hitting pads and having real sparring are completely different.

He took punches well from Valuev, didn't you say as soon as Valuev lands he will be down out cold?

Do you mind if I quote this post when he beats either of those? If he beats Arreola, I don't want any "Wait til he fights the Klitschkos, Tua or Peter!! Then I will be proven right!!!:hey"

Come on...its not fair to change your argument. You should give credit for Haye taking Valuev's punches, rather than saying "Next time....".

Of course Hayes chin is still questionable, I mean it didn't get tested yesterday, and Haye was even lightly wobbled from a jab! Chins can't be improved anyways, that's common boxing knowledge.

But Haye proved that he has improved his stamina, that's very important too.

    He wasn't wobbled at all.

And an inch of muscle on the neck, will improve punch resistance.

Sure, go ahead quote it. I actually enjoy getting tweaked man. I don't take this **** too seriously, or even care that much about being right. I know I know boxing, been following it since before most of the people on this site were born. You did your homework, you found clear evidence I said Valuev would knock him out, and I salute you! :good

I will say, in my defense, when the fight became a reality and I made a "real" prediction, here's the call I made:

    www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5328505&postcount=6886

But I make NO promises about not saying someone else will knock him out.:-( Do you really want to ruin my enjoyment of these fights that much??:hey
