I recently read, maybe on Sherdog, that an odds maker would make Fedor a 4-1 favorite over Lesnar. Last night's fight made me wonder if those odds would be a little closer now. Fanboys be aware. I still think Fedor is mma's best ever, and is still the number 1 heavyweight. Fedor still has a few fights outside the UFC to keep his claim as the sport's best. Rogers is a big man, but is unskilled when compared to Lesnar. Fedor won, as he always does, but this fight left me wondering. I realized something last night. Fedor is great because of his balance of talents, but Fedor vs Lesnar is different. Against Nogueira, Fedor was the brute with the ability to overcome. Against Coleman, Fedor was the submission specialist overcoming the brute. I don't think Fedor has ever been in the position Lesnar is capable of putting him in. It made me wonder if Fedor has enough ground defense to put Lesnar in the position Mir put him in. Fedor is the heavyweight champion of mma, with no doubt. However, I do now doubt his ability to defeat Lesnar.
If it took last night to realize that Lesnar has a better chance than anybody in the world, you haven't seen Lesnar. He can put Fedor in difficult spots, but Fedor has made a career out of winning from bad spots, Fedor would still be about a -200 favorite.
I would say Rogers has better stand up and hits alot harder than Lesnar, Fedor took those shots and at the end of fight had alot left in his tank. I see Fedor winning a war all Lesnar can do is lay on him and smother him which also leaves him open for submission. Fedor is light years ahead of Frank Mir, he would never be caught in a situation like that.
It's not that I didn't think Lesnar had a chance before. I would now make Lesnar the favorite to win. I do not believe that Fedor has been forced into a similar position that Mir was put into in Mir's rematch with Lesnar. I don't know if Fedor has the set of ground skills necessary to win there currently.
His first fight with Coleman, to me shows he is cabable of dealing with being controlled on the ground and winning. I'm the biggest Lesnar supporter here, but to make him the favorite is a stretch to me. While Mir is probably the only HW with an equally offense guard as Fedor, Mir tends to wilt a bit as he takes damage, Fedor tends to grab an arm no matter how discouraging the situation. Lesnar can win, but Rogers showed absolutely nothing whatsoever to show anything that turns the odds against Fedor; that fight was vintage Fedor. Picks his spots, relaxed, adapts, sees the opening and finishes. Also Fedors standup is light years ahead of Mirs, so while he would still be vulnerable to a huge right hand, he would be comfortable standing.
Come on man you cant be serious atsch Noboddy in this divison has the kinda of hips like Fedor if he is put on his back agianst Lesnar or anyone he will execute sweeps or armbars with perfection.
fedor is the all around better fighter. lesnar is a mass monster. lesnar has to use his brute power to win.
Have you even watched Fedor fights??atsch His money is on the ground. On his back in particular. But you would'nt have to worry about that with Lesnar. Fedor will KO him standing:deal. Smart money says Lesnar has a china chin. Even if he don't, Fedor will crack him then take control. Don't get delusional by the Dana White machine. Fedor has sparring partners who are better than Brock.
Rogers vs Lesnar would be more competitive than Fedor vs Lesnar. Fedor would knock Lesnar out just like he did Rogers only faster.
fedorz ground skillz are the best part about him you tool fedorz ground skillz are head and shoulderz above mir's ground skillz, lol how did brock lose his only fight ? he waz in a superiour postion on top and had mir on the ground and mir submitted him that is fedorz game he is so patient on the ground on his back that i have personally never seen a fighter that has so much ability to switch from a terrible position of being controled on the ground in the blink of an eye into a dominant dangerous position of deadly submissionz thatz how brock lost his first fight fedor is much better then mir on the ground much trickyer, quicker, slicker and much more versatile
Lesnar hasn't done anything that would lead me to believe that he'd be a threat to Fedor. Better yet , i personally wouldn't be surprised to see him lose before the end of 2010. 1 - his size is irrelevant. 2 - his sub defense is abysmal (he did great against Mir yes , But there's a huge ****ing difference between beating the **** out of Mir & repeating this on a specimen like Emelianenko) 3 - He has no stamina. (his fight against Couture proved it) 4 - He's strong , but not as strong as a majority of fans claim that he is. (again , the much smaller & older Randy Couture was at times outpowering him). 5 - his speed & balance on the ground is great , but nowhere near Fedor's league. Lesnar is the product of a mega-hype machine. Thanks to Dana White , most fans are believing it big time.... It started with Herring. (fedor did the same , only better & more violent a few years back when heath was still in his prime). Then his fight vs Randy. (which definitely proved that his physical strength was overrated & that he had a questionable stamina) And his rematch against Mir. (let's not forget , Mir , has always been a poor man's version of Nogueira. The guy can't handle pressure , his fight vs Ian Freeman was the blueprint really...Lesnar basically replicated this only it took him 2 rounds to finish instead of 1 ). He still did great though. But again...so what ? Mir Couldn't beat Vera & Cruz. And the best name on his resume is Nogueira. That is , 2008 Nogueira. It's great except that here again , Fedor actually beat that guy when it truely mattered. In 2003 , in his prime. I swear , fans are so deluded , i've once read that Lesnar > Karelin in the wrestling department. :-( Karelin ! Dana White is amazing. I think he's a monumental ******* but he truely is an amazing manipulator & promoter. You can't take that away from him. MMA wouldn't be as huge today without him. (especially after pride died).... but man...at what price ? ... A few years back , any serious discussions about Lesnar vs Fedor would've been laughed at....Dana is a genius...half the fans think Lesnar is # 1 and yet only has a 4-1 record...genius !
I think Lesnar would be Fedor's toughest test. Lesnar is unnaturally big and strong, plus his wrestling is topnotch. With that said, Fedor's unorthodox striking and excellent submission game has to make him the favorite. There's no one else in the UFC that poses any sort of threat.
