If it does do over a million I wonder where it ranks with other all time high Sky PPV's? Anyone know the numbers for Hatton - Mayweather....didn't that do 1.3 Million :huh
A million? Jeez...... How does that compare to say, Lennox Lewis's buys? That will **** Warren right off, with Khan struggling to break the 100k mark.
Didn't Warren blame the numbers on poor economic times. Imagine if Haye had his own 24/7 show :admin:admin He'd be brilliant!!!!!
I'd blame it on Khan being almost as boring as Wlad to watch. I refuse to buy Khan PPV's now he is with Roach, I ain't paying that slimy ****'s wages..... then again I only bought one and went out for the others. Would rather give my money to the taxman :deal Consistently lining up feather fisted gimmes won't help either. I don't think Haye would sell this many against anybody else..... a lot of people got it for the circus of a little guy trying to beat a monster
I think Haye could do similar numbers against a Klit, by then he would've balled over ruiz (they should get that on terestrial) maybe won SPOTY, his profile would be much higher (don't forget Haye was relatively unknown before this fight) the Klits are themselfs huge/fantastic shape and there's that unification angle.
Possibly. Most people I know though aren't aware that there are two Klitschko brothers - they only know Vitali, with the Lewis angle and Danny Williams to a lesser degree. These aren't what I'd call boxing fans, not even casual ones, but certainly many of them are ardent fans of one sport or another and are capable of having a reasonable debate about most sports, including boxing. If you are talking purely commercially, I'd go with Vitali first - then the Wlad fight will definitely sell if Haye wins. Not many people that have seen Wlad before would be paid to watch him, let's be frank. Vitali isn't great box office either but at least you see a punch up and usually a KO.
I don't enjoy watching Wlad or Vitali fight, but the Haye-Valuev fight, dull as it may have been due to styles and Haye's adoption of sensible tactics, was at least interesting because there were so many intangibles. Have ANY of Wlad or Vitali's last opponents had even a hope of winning? Sam Peter was always dreadful, Gomez wasn't anything special, and Arreola was a fat useless lump. Anyone with simple understanding of the styles could see even a slowed down, broken up Vitali would have his way with them. Arreola's only success was keeping Vitali on the move. Wlad's is even worse. Now, that's not their fault - they're just a lot better than the poor operators at HW, but Haye brings questions. He's faster than either brother, his style is awkward and his explosiveness is hard to adapt to. Add in his movement, reflexes and the excellent defence he had last night - I think he's a very tough opponent for either Klitschko. Either way, there's a background story now for HBO and Sky to sell. The bad feeling over the pull outs, the worse feeling over the t-shirt, Haye going and winning a title... it's got drama written all over it.
Worse thing is that the next upcoming fight, Vitali-Johnson, looks hopeless as well. I almost feel sorry for the K Bros having to fight such appalling competition. Johnson's resume is laughably thin, absolutely laughably, but by the simple dint of not losing yet he got himself a high enough rank enough to be a #6 contender. The only positive I can offer is that these pretenders are being taken out of the picture one by one. I think 2009, while pretty poor for the quality of HW boxing, has been good for 'clearing the pool' a bit so I can hope for a better 2010. As for Haye's PPV, even if it's half a mil that'd be tremendous. Every single buy will stick in Fwank's throat too.
But you cant even blame the pretenders theres literally nothing out there where these fighters can learn there trade. The gulf between the klistchko's and the rest of the division is staggering
Rumour has it that Frank was seen scurrying around Nuremburg on Saturday afternoon putting up "Fight Cancelled" posters :deal
The two biggest boxing PPVs in the UK were: 1. Hatton vs. Mayweather - 1.4 million (2007) 2. Lewis vs. Tyson - 750,000 (2002)
