Great performance?? Are you f**kin kidding??

How can running away for 12 rounds constitute a 'great performance'??

So you think that running and throwing no punches was the only way to beat Valuev do you? How about doing what Haye did at the end of the 12th? Couldn't he have used that tactic to defeat him instead of posing his way to victory?

    Nah, Valuev deserved that fight..

I think Haye could have fought and won another way. He had the lamentable Valuev all over the place in the last, and it wasn't from an accumulation of punishment, it was from actually stepping forward and really committing to his punches because it was the last round. If Haye had enough confidence in his clearly weak stamina/cardio, he could have fought throughout the fight like he did in that last round - still intelligent, still elusive, but committing more to sporadic, forceful attacks, because for long periods in that fight Haye was throwing nothing and taking a big risk on the judges valuing his inactive elusiveness. If Haye had better stamina/cardio, he could have fought at a slightly higher pace, been a little more aggressive, and knocked Valuev out, causing a sensation in the process. If David wants to be a successful heavyweight (or if he ever wants to compete with Vitali Klitschko), he should stop focusing on the bodybuilder physique, and start improving his stamina, sacrificing a little of his superb power for the ability to fight at a high tempo for 12 rounds without looking exhausted. Dragging around all that muscle wears him out, he is top heavy, and they said in the British commentary that Haye is one of the few boxers who does not do extensive road work to build stamina. I think that's a mistake.

Jim Watt was churning this **** out for most of the fight. He was even talking about "effective aggression" and the "quality of punches", and somehow—with that in mind—had Valuev winning by 2 points.

I honestly think he was just saying that because he was expecting a "German" decision and just wanted to be able to say "I told you" so at the end.

    Well said.

Those 93 pounds are the only reason Valuev is in there, because he severely lacks in other departments. Floyd never had an edge in speed this big either. Old Holyfield didn't have to run, yet Haye did.

Holy has a chin, Haye doesn't.

Haye fought the fight he needed to to ensure victory. If he had gone all-out, he might have won by KO but he might also have got KO'd.

In the end, the tactics won him the HW title, so fair play to him. He deserves credit, not hate.

I still really dislike him, but there is no doubt it is better for the sport to have him as champ than Valuev.

Indeed, that's what I'm saying. And since Valuev doesn't hit that hard compared to other heavies, there is no reason to assume Haye will fight differently against them.
