I watched some footage of each fighter with the big fight coming up and noticed two things I don't like. First Miguel Cotto's body attack has decreased. Body punching won the Torres fight, beat up Urkal, Judah, and Quintana. However latley I feel like he has ignored the body. Agaisnt Margarito I kept wondering why he has not hit the body so much. The guy is tall and open for it. He could probably have taken the wind out of Margarito. Against Clottey he would corner him and stare him down and not throw. I was watching and thinking where is the body attack. I feel like he did not go to the body as much and smother Clottey. Another observation is that He has had a tendency to run latley. Against Margo he did a decent amount of running but what I did not like that it was straight back and I attribute that to alot of the punishment he took and the TKO. Against Clottey he ran a little bit. Especially later when he was hurt. I may be over exaggerating here but I think to beat Pacquio he has to get to the body early and frequently something not too many fighters have done to Paquio and Cotto is just the guy to do it.
Clottey is a tank... He had no chance of beating up on Clottey. All he could do was use superior skill and stamina to outpoint him, all the while hoping to survive in the process. Plain and simple. Pac does not bring that brut strength and toughness at 145 that Clottey brings at 147. Cotto will be able to utilize any and all body attacks, etc. Cotto KO4
Different styles bring different fights and he fights everybody different. If you fight everybody the same way, your bound to lose eventually, and he knows how to adapt.
Wouldn't suprise me if it did. Cotto definetly has the power to do it and pac has never been hit by a fighter like Cotto. Cotto also has the skillset and great timing to disrupt pacs speed. I think after Sat. you'll find out and see for yourself.
You can see it when it happens...:good Pac don't want none of that boy... he bout to get beat the **** up!
This 'Cotto doesn't go to the body anymore' is a myth. -Gomez (destroyed with body shots) -Margarito (should have gone to the body I agree) -Jennings (got taken out by a body shot) -Clottey (Got in some decent body shots, specially when he first got the cut in desperation, but eventually dismissed it in order to just survive) Cotto's last 4 fights.
Pretty good post. I don't know about Cotto's body attack diminishing, I haven't noticed it, but if it is the case, I'd say that maybe it looks diminished because you can't effectively body attack everyone you fight. Cotto probably abandoned the body attack against Margarito because Margarito is very easy to hit i the face. As far as Clottey...I don't know. Now, as far as what you said about Cotto running, yeah, he did quite a bit of running against Margarito, Clottey, and to some degree, Mosley, but I can't see him running against as guy as small as Pacquiao. Probably won't happen.
:good and he has a solid D. Cotto had to land wherever he could against him. Clottey's blocks his body extremely well.
Cotto imposes his size and strength on a boxer even slightly smaller than him. On larger opponents he implies a different strategy which is to box effectively. He has never had a problem with breaking down a smaller opponent and that is why I believe Cotto will pull it off on Saturday.
yeah he uses that winky wright style and doesnt give you much to work with. I think cottos win is underestimated. He won and fought bravely even with a huge gash. of course that takes some steam out of any fighter
He did go to the body with Clottey which is what set up head shots as well, Clottey has a peak a boo style so you have to work the body if your going to score anything up top. People who say Cotto doesnt invest in the body is simply saying that because lately he hasnt stopped anybody to the body and there was a trend we saw in which he did...
