Just thinking ahead of myself but 2010 could be massive commercially for boxing. Just think - if Pacquaio gets past Cotto theres a possibility of considered no 1 and 2 p4p'ers on most peoples list coming together for fight of the century hype. Even if Cotto wins i imagine floyd will go 1 and cotto possibly 2 so we'll still have a big fight. We've also got a marketable heavyweight champ now in David Haye, like him, hate him, rate him or think hes overrated if he does a good job on Ruiz weve potentially got our first really big Heavyweight ppv fight (with either klitschko) since lewis/tyson The super six will kick into the semi-finals before the end of the year knocking out two of the nearly men and should set up a lot of interest for the final in 2011 - hopefully we'll get set up for a abraham/kessler final - i aint seen much of ward so he might suprise me yet. also theres potentially big money fights to be made with hatton/khan although id rather not see that it would generate huge numbers(especially in britain). and we have the return of margaritto who will probably be the most hated man in the sport but who could have a big re-match with cotto to see how well he does without the plaster. i also imagine mosley/mayweather would do a good business even though mosley aint the greatest draw (maybes he should go in the papers and trash talk floyd to build up some extra hype)
Fully agree. Dont forget 140 has alot of good fighters and HBO is thinking about a tournament there. However what tehy have selected is not really the best choice so far. Im sure they will tweak it a lil bit to make it better. Also next year we will see Angulo, Alvarez and Mares step it up to the big stage. Im obviously excited for that. Margarito probably will become one of the top PPV attractions. Hate sells tickets and you are right he is very hated right now. Not to mention he is Mexican.
Pac- Mayweather Haye-Vitali wow that would be a dream come true not to mention all the other smaller fights that could be made but in no way less exciting Hatton- winner of the LWW super 6 if they decide to make that Hatton-JMM Mosley-Mayweather Haye-Wlad Valero-somone worth getting excited over
Yep 2010 presents an exciting year for us. I started a thread on this a while ago, and gave my thoughts on the potential matchups and results: Pacquiao vs Mayweather - A mega fight which stands to make stupid amounts of money, there is no reason for this to not take place. Despite believing Mayweather will win, I'll still love to see how he'll deal with what Pacquiao has to bring. Result - Mayweather UD Vitali vs Haye - I personally don't know how Haye will get on against Valuev, but providing he pulls through, I'd love for this fight to finally take place. Hate him or love him, Haye is the type of fighter you wanna see fight 2/3 times a year. It's unfortunate that he'd have been inactive for a full year by the time he fights next. A fight against Vitali (or the other one) is something the heavyweight scene is in dying need of. Result - Vitali by late KO Mosely vs Mayweather - Out of the 3 guys (Cotto, Pac, Shane) who I believe Mayweather must fight before retiring, I think Shane is the one who will come nearest to handing him his first defeat. Lightning handspeed, crushing power and a granite chin, Sugar presents a real welterweight challenge which Floyd hasn't taken on since his move in to the 147 scene. I personally think Mayweather will come out on top in a fight for his life. Result - Mayweather by split decision Cotto vs Mayweather - If Cotto rips up the script on Novemeber 14th, then we will know for sure that the Miguel Cotto of old is still amongst us. Before being stopped by Margarito, he was the one who many thought would go on to present the toughest challenge to Floyd. Unfortunately, we all know why that didn't take place. I personally think Cotto is more of a threat to Mayweather, than Pacquiao will ever be. Just like Shane, Cotto is a fully fledged Welterweight who will look to make it ugly for the Prettyboy. Very interesting to see how Floyd would deal with him, and could possibly bring the best out of him. Result - Mayweather by UD Marquez vs Pacquiao - Unfinished business here, in which the Mexican has given Pacquiao arguably 2 of the toughest fights of his career. Since then, Pacquiao has frightingly evolved in to the best P4P fighter in the world. It would be a big mistake to think Marquez would have the same type of success he did in the first 2 meetings. Formerly a one armed bandit, Pac has added a lethal right arm to his weaponry, which I believe will help him tremendously should they meet again. Result - Pacquiao by UD
5 fights you should get excited about: Nishioka vs. Hasegawa Montiel vs. Yonnhy Perez Darchinyan vs. Donaire II Caballero vs. Poonsawat Viloria vs. Roman Gonzalez (probably not going to happen)
Didn't he already beat valuev :huh Vitali fight will be a great fight as i think vitty will struggle to hit haye and vitty aint getting no quicker.
yeah theres some excellent fights that will take place that will only get noticed by fanatics. i was talking to some guys in the pub at the haye/valuev fight and theyd never heard of cotto, said theyd only heard of pac when he was going to fight odlh, hell some people dont know wha they are missing out on
