Anyone think Shane could do it, or is everyone going with Tommy on this one?

Mosley couldn't even beat the 6ft jabbing Vernon Forrest, so no he never beats Hearns.

Agree. Hearns is a style which would be too much for Mosley. Hearns would jab Mosley and then start to land the right and stop Mosley in about 4 or 5 rounds.

I was going to say, Hearns would be too much like Forrest. It would be a bad stylistic matchup.

I think Hearns would probably win too, but I have a nagging feeling that we shouldn't rule Mosley out completely. Hearns at 147 could weaken a bit towards the end of a fast-paced 15 round fight, and Mosley at welter was strong as an ox, had good speed and workrate, and a solid chin. More than likely a wide Hearns UD, but there's a realistic chance of a Hearns stoppage OR a Mosley stoppage IMO.

I'm a big time Mosley fan, but Hearns is all wrong for him.

With his height, reach, and good overall boxing ability, I am having a hard time envisioning any scenario where Shane wins.

Even if Tommy was really lazy or winded during parts of the fight, the tempo he would be able to establish would more than likely make Shane too reluctant to do the things he'd need to do in order to win.

If it was a 12 rounder, I'd say Tommy wins 116-112 or 117-111 with a good possibility of a late round stoppage.

In a 15 rounder? I'm not sure Shane sees the final bell, although I'd be willing to give his chin and durability the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think Shane could do it.

Mosley was (is) in my interpretation mainly a mid-range fighter. He measures distance with his jab amd leaps in with hard power shots. He was never really inept at fighting at a distance and his in-fighting is nothing to rave about. In summary, he just didn't have enough wrinkles in his game to stand a chance. Leonard who is one of the most complete fighters of all time was able to adapt from fighting at distance to walking hearns down and landing hard power punches and devastating body shots on the inside. The guys who had the most success against Hearns were guys who were able to close the distance and get close enough to put dents in him. With Mosley's style and size it would make that IMV impossible.

    Hearns in 7.

Should that read ''adept'' rather than inept?

    Hearns By 9 Rd TKO

Mosley is a great fighter and has a great chin but Tommy is one of the top 3 greatest welterweights that has ever lived and would be to much.

Yes, if Shane couldn't get past Forrest in two bouts, how will he get past a man like Hearns?

On the other hand, Hearns was a skeleton at 147 and gassed out at the end against SRL. I wouldn't rule that out against SSM either. So I think either guy has a chance here. Either Hearns early or Mosley late.

It may make some folks mad, but I wouldn't be upset if anyone had Hearns outside the Top 10 at welter.

Hearns is a tough matchup for anybody. Haglar and Leonard (especially Leonard) are lucky enough to have fought Hearns and won in the Ring, where it matters most. I think Hearns beats Mosley by UD. I can't see Mosley getting knocked out or stopped.

I reckon Mosley has a puncher's chance to be honest. If Hearns puts him on the back foot then you'd favour him, although again Mosley could end matters, not because of Hearns having a poor chin, but just because he was a good, determined fighter with some power, though not posessing that of his opponent's. Hearns is more versatile, though at 147 i've always thought he was a bit hypo and not as composed or rounded as at 154.

So i pick Hearns but it's interesting. Hearns should use the jab and outgun his man off the back of it imo.
