Max Kellerman is not that bad of a commentator

When Max is just talking about boxing he's fantastic. What he used to do a ESPN should be his job for the rest of his life. Somehow he's not responding to the flow at HBO. He hasn't found himself there and he might being trying to hard to say the things he thinks his company wants him to say.

 

I didn't like him that much at first, but he is doing ok now. He will not be as good as Merchant, but he will do ok. I liked Tompkins/Merchant better than Lampley/Merchant.

 

he's annoying and he tries to act like a real man, but he's not.

 

In 30 years of following the sport, Kellerman is the worst commentator I have ever seen. Alone among boxing commentators, he never worked as a journalist or participant in the sport prior to getting put on TV. And it shows. As one journalist said, "replacing Larry Merchant with Kellerman is like replacing Picasso with the guy who does Elvis paintings outside Graceland."

HBO could do a LOT better, by getting someone qualified like Al Bernstein.

Max Kellerman is a great commentator. It's his post fight interviews that suck. Max is the logical unbiased counter to Larry Merchant who is absolutely ****en terrible and totally biased as a commentator but is amazing as a post fight interviewer.

 

Al would be great but he's fine on Showtime as well. As it is Showtime may not have the budget that HBO has but it is putting a better product out there. I mean the Dawson Johnson rematch was a joke, I watched the first round and knew right then the outcome. Wide UD again.

I like Brian Kenny, he does a good job with interviews, is respectful but just doesn't lob softballs at guys either.

why the hell doesn't Bert Sugar have a job on TV? Does he not want one, I find him very entertaining when they have him on ESPN from time to time.

 

I like Max overall and have never understood the Max hate ESB has. I was perturbed with his performance last Saturday as well as the whole HBO crew, to be honest. But overall, I really think he's a likable guy. And even though I don't like rap...
