I'm sure most people think a brawl, in which guys throw punches at each other non-stop is the textbook "good fight", but I think otherwise. Brawls can be entertaining, but unless it's effective brawling, those kinds of fights have no appeal to me. The Gatti-Ward fights, and most of the Barerra-Morales fights are what you'd call effective brawling. A tough man contest is brawling by two guys who have no idea what they are doing is an example of a non effective fight, and thus, not interesting. Entertaining, but not interesting. Another thing that makes a good fight for me is a fight that is technical, but full of drama. In other words, the fighters may not throw as many punches as they would in a brawl, but are still throwing enough to make the fight entertaining, and full of drama down the stretch. Clottey-Cotto is a perfect example. Winky wight - Jermain Taylor is another. A underdog getting beat, but doing better than expected is another example. Check out Klitschko-Lewis. There is, of course, the fight in which a guy has to come from behind to take the fight over, like JMM did against Pacquiao in their first fight. Any others?
I'm all for technical fights, as long as the winner shows the ability and the superiority to clearly impose his will on his opponent over the majority of the fight.
A competitive match, or one where at least one fighter shows great skill in doing something or overcomes great adversity.
i like fighters who hit and don't get hit, frustrate, and outclass their opponents with technical ability
i like it when fighters use their head to avoid getting hit by sidestepping and confusing their opponents without continuously circling the ring running, and at the same time having the confidence to get in there and throw multiple combinations going for the kill. It should contain exchanges that will exhibit their abilities to take punches and skills to move in and out of a brawl.
Calzaghe - Kessler is a pretty good fight. High level tactics, high workrates, pretty even generalship until the later rounds and even then Kessler threw some massive bombs.
A good fight to me is a brawl with high skill level and the conditioning by both fighters to keep it going for some rounds I also like fights where one fighter outboxes another who is extremely dangerous and at any time can turn the fight around....or the opposite where the dangerous fighter getting outboxed turns the fight around suddenly Lastly I love fights with momentum shifts such as rallies, fighters getting stunned/hurt/dazed/dropped/worn down(then returning the favor to their ooponent), trying to make the end of a round during a tough round(and who can forget frenzied cornermen trying to wake up/motivate their fighter with anecdotes, profanity, slapping, or water )
As long as neither of the fighters are running and they are both throwing punches. You can't really go wrong.
for me , evenly matched , plenty of action and if possible both guys finding themselves in trouble at some point.
Honestly my favorite fights are ones where the fighter I'm rooting for is the underdog and then he wins in exciting fashion. Mosley/Margarito, Pavlik/Taylor, Calzaghe/Lacy, Mosley/De La Hoya, Barrera/Hamed. I love when skill overcomes hype and there's an absolute schooling.
hard to say....i enjoy 98% of the fights i see so realistically it's about "who vs. who".....example: i can see a random good fight between 2 unknowns and think..... "hmm..that was a good fight" but if that same exact fight was between two guys who's careers i've been following and it's a fight i've been anticipating, then i'd think "wow what an amazing fight", and i'd be even more drawn nearly ever clean blow would have me at the edge of my seat... but if you want a more simple answer, it would be clean punches....
