I watched how Scott systematically ate up Eddie M. Mhuhammad on tape last night at Rahway......... Scott fought a very hard and pressing fight in order to get the nod...... Then I watched Qawi force Scott into the role as the boxer / runner and Qawi really had no trouble at all in securing the win at Rahway......... Prior to that fight they showed clips of Jerry Martin brutally dropping Scott 2 X in their war prior to Scott's meeting with Qawi........ James Scott was a bad dude in society and spent most his life locked up in prison, but on a verbal sense, Scott was no dummy........ MR.BILL
the record says you are true , but i remember the knockdown and i don't think i would have considered mustafa the winner
I never saw Eddie vs. Saad.............. Sounds good though.......... But yes, Eddie was better skilled, while Saad was perhaps the most durable fighter in the world in the late 70s............ I never thought tuff guys like Saad or Marvin Johnson were skilled fighters with finess.......... They were more so brawn and guts, with good power........ MR.BILL
Just some facts for those able to think and balance outside the box Mustafa/Gregory claimed to be overawed and intimidated fighting in Rahway prison vs the obviously crowd favoured Scott, and it showed (to anyone with any idea whatsoever) Braxton/Qawi however, had served in Rahway (and indeed been Scott's sparring partner :yep) and was anything but intimidated or awed. Braxton also fought a fast fading version of Scott, in what was actually Scott's last ever fight. Great trivia - Braxton claimed Scott owed him money from their days shared in Rahway, and said he'd be happy to put a beating on him there.
This would come down to effort and aggression. Dwight wins that kind of exchange 19 out of 20 times. Even when Eddie took his title from Marvin Johnson, he passively frittered away some rounds after that first knockdown by letting Johnson bull his way inside and roughhouse. Saad had already proved twice that Marvin was vulnerable to a late surge, and Eddie's early success reinforced his susceptibility to hard punishment. At 175 though, Ike is a different story, and his hustle would not abate. As hard as Eddie hit, he could not count on being able to hurt Qawi when he needed to if he tried to come from behind to win, especially not with Dwight's stamina. Nor would his vaunted body attack be particularly useful on somebody having Qawi's barrel chested stature. (Very few champions were as poorly able to take it downstairs as Marvin Johnson, yet he was also known as a dedicated trainer. His relative lack of endurance despite this must have driven him nuts.) Anybody who saw Eddie paste the hapless Lotte Mwale to the canvas, or fold Marvin Johnson in half with a bodyshot already knows how lethal he could be at his most highly motivated. Like JohnThomas, I'm not among those questioning his power, and we're largely in agreement where Eddie's abilities are concerned.
Johnny Boy, WRONG!!! I have the fight and post-fight interview on tape.... I saw it again the other night............. E.M.M. claimed he was calm and relaxed cuz he was a seasoned pro....... Maybe Eddie was too relaxed since he took a while to get his butt going.?.?.? But Scott puffed-up Eddie's left eye early and bad........ Scott was rugged, but in-shape and hungry....... Eddie's style was indeed more smooth than Scott's was in 1978, but Scott was just too busy and aggressive for Eddie in Rahway........ In 1978, up in Jersey, Scott owned Eddie M.M...... In 1981, James Scotty was a mere age 33 or 34 with only 20 pro fights at best........ Scott was again lean, mean & ripped in tone, but against more seasoned and talented dudes like "Martin & Qawi," Scott's rugged skills were obvious....... Christ, Martin DECKED Scott 2X real bad in their fight, and Qawi was just too damn heated up and good, and Scott was actually the boxer / back-peddler for that loss in '81...... Qawi was an animal..... I liked how Ferdie Pacheco interviewed Qawi outside the front of the prison prior to the fight.... But Qawi was already released by that time........ James Scott was a bad dude in society and, to a degree, in the ring too; but he was no dummy........ Scott was good for conversation and had some knowledge and wisdom of life....... MR.BILLbbb:good
Billy Boy, you need to get around a bit more, there was plenty of material around back in the day explaining the nuances of this bout. :good
Johnny, I'm age 42...... So I was a mere age 11 in 1978......... I missed the initial hoopla from the exact time frame featuring "Scott & Eddie M." I obtained the tape later on for my records...... I will agree that the inmates / convicts were "Pro" James Scott supporters all the way for that fight with Eddie in Prison / Rahway back in '78....... No ****ing doubt there.... I have footage of all the pre & post fight bull**** on VHS.... Scott had the crowd support to the maxi-pad....... STILL! No denying, Scott beat-up Eddie fair and square in the ring...... I scored it a close but true to form unanimous decision all the way...... Scott won that fight......... Cheers...... MR.BILL:bbbthumbsup:hat
Also, for the record, I'd like to splatter a full load on the babe's belly that you've goin' in the avatar............ She is smoking.... :admin:tong:shock::hey MR.BILL
