Hatton wants Cotto should he beat Manny.

Lazcano wasn't a non-puncher, but most of his KOs came at LW, if I'm not mistaken. He'd also been retired for two years or something before fighting Hatton.

 

This may be unpopular but, as much as I'd like to see it, I'm not convinced Cotto would put a 12 round beatdown on Margo. We don't know for sure Margo had tampered gloves that night but, either way, he offers stylistic problems for Cotto.

Cotto was laying traps for Margo through the first half of the fight but, in the second half, he was merely trying to escape. He was already on the backfoot figuratively and metaphorically speaking by having to change his style to accomodate Margo's relentless aggression.

The reason Cotto lost is because he got tired, due to Margo's pressure, and was unable to do the things that worked for him early. The question is, if you think Margo had plaster in his hands, is that the reason you think he tired?

I think it's reason he got battered so badly. Margarito had never shown that sort of weight on his shots before.

Maybe Cotto wouldn't have suffered so badly from the sixth on when Margarito's blows started to have much more effect. Maybe he could have kept boxing smart, despite the pressure, and ground out a few more rounds. He was still fit enough to win the tenth till Margo landed a good shot in the last 30 seconds. That seemed to take everything out of him.

It would have been incredibly close, but he probably could have taken it on a close decision.

Indubitably, but I was referring directly to Hatton's quote:good.

 

Will Margaritos punch resistance be affected by the mauling at the hands of Mosley? This could play a factor in any rematch.
Also,I think Cotto would've learnt loads from the Margarito loss and in the rematch he will conserve energy better,be more denensive and box his way to a points win or late stoppage.

 

The pressure/ pace was causing Cotto to wilt as much as any extra "weight" on Margos shots. The shots from the mid way point may have looked heavy and caused damage because Cottos condition and the fact they were landing more often.

IMHO its a stretch to say anything "probably" would have happened differently if Margos wraps had of been legal. Of course you can reverse that and say its impossible to say things "probably" would have been the same without the wraps too but, IMHO, I'd take the rematch to follow the same course as the first first.

Theres less "ifs" and "maybes" involved in justifying a Margarito win than there is a Cotto win.

As Uzi says though, that Mosely fight was pretty tough going for Margarito. Who knows what that took out of him?

 

Cotto would put Hatton into an early grave.

Hatton seriously needs to get a grip.

 

I think it's an absolute certainty to be honest, in a rematch Cotto wins inside 6.

 

hatton has no chance and will never get in the ring again after the pacman dealt with him. have u seen him l8ly his put on 4 stone since the pacman fight. no matter what he says mentley he will neva b the same. cotto will eat him for a midnight snack.

Maybe he would, but I see Cotto busting Hatton up, giving him more a beating, than Pacquiao did. Manny KO'd Hatton inside two rounds. Cotto would probably not win as quickly, but he would hurt Hatton.

If Cotto beats Pacquiao & we do end up having Hatton-Cotto, then I'm sure that will be Ricky's last fight!

They save the best until last, but this would be save the worst until last!

 

I think Cotto has made a point in preparation for the Pacquiao fight of turning up 8-9 days early so he can adjust to the Nevada heat and air. Maybe he felt against Margarito he struggled with breathing. He did gas there's no doubt about it and part was Margarito's pressure but also swallowing blood is a huge problem. I feel even Margarito with normal gloves is a problem for any fighter but i feel Cotto can outbox him long enough and take the fight on points...but really that's a fight we look to in the future...Miguel has bigger fish to fry tomorrow night.
