I try talking about it to my flatmates and friends. It has come back to haunt me a bit becuase i get a couple of guys talking absolute bollocks. One lad actually asked me, 'Cotto? is that the one Hatton knocked out with a body shot?'

I came home from uni to watch it in my own home as watching with a group of casual fans, which i would be doing if i stayed at uni, really annoys me.

if everyone became boxing fans again though it would be cool, actually have casual conversations with people about boxing, there's so much boxing snobbery on this board it's unreal,if the masses become interested in it again then there would be a much more educated crowd while the hardcores could still have the boards.

i find it very refreshing that when i was saying to people i was up at the odyssey for the boxing they were able to turn round and say that it was rogan fighting and wasnt mccloskey brilliant, boxing is getting back into the mainstream in ireland and its because we have people from all over the country creating interest!rogan/lindsay are reigniting the belfast scene, mccloskey has been refreshing the entire north, duddy in derry, lee in the west, dunne in dublin its a great time for boxing here, and if the same happened in the uk in would be brilliant!

have the punter on the street talk about boxing and it benefits it across the spectrum from grassroots to elite

Few of the lads and my brother would be interested but thankfully nobody has really asked me for my take on it nor give their opinion, frankly its because nobody knows the first thing about the fight

10 days ago when everyone was talking about Haye-Valuev and asking if im buying it and whatnot, i just usually replied 'i dont really care about the Haye fight, il never pay for a HW fight as things stand and theres a fight between Pacquaio and Cotto 7 days later that i really cant wait for, a real real to get excited about....'

My dad is purely like "PACQUIAO'S GONNA WIN", has no real basis except Pacquiao has speed and is like "how do you deal with speed?"

And I spoke to a guy at work today about it and I was like "you watching the fight?" and he was like "I have work but it'll be a good fight" I asked him who he was going for and he, like his manager whom I speak to said Pacman and I was just like "Cotto will annihilate him" and he was like "That's what you said about Valuev, hahaa" and then just walked off leaving me to think "****, he's right".

    Still going for Cotto though.

Im lucky enough to know 2 people who have an interest in boxing. One is hardcore, hes a boxing bible.
The other, just has a passing interest, & you will all be happy to know, he supports all the brit fighters!

Apart from those two though, I could stand on a soapbox in Sauchiehall st in Glasgow city centre at rush hour shouting about the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, & no-one would know what the **** im talking about...

Scotland in the main doesnt give a **** about boxing anymore. Thats what SKY did to the sport when they bought it up in the 90's. They alienated the masses.

**** sake you picked Valuev to win & are now picking Cotto? Maybe you should let your dad post here in your place, he sounds more clued up than you;)

Haha, totally agreed. I got bought into the whole "VALUEV IS A BEAST" thing. But in my defense, my dad also thought the same and still thinks Valuev won the fight. And I just don't see Pacquiao stopping Cotto, I see him being able to beat him but I think the only way he's stopping Miguel is if his cut opens, and due to me praying that doesn't happen, the only other way I see the fight going is Cotto with a nice bodyshot.

But still, if Pacquiao does it, ****ing hell, it'll be great.

Valuev was a joke, but i can see why everyone bought into it. The sheer sight of a man stepping over the top rope etc makes the old jaw drop, but Chagaev, Ruiz & Holyfield had exposed him long before for what he was, & I can see why your old man had Valuev winning, cos Haye did **** all to win the title... It was crazy tactics from Haye running like that, cos if he traded with Valuev Im sure the fight would have been over in 2 rounds, with Haye being a true giant killer!

& Of course I safety winked, cos I was just joking with you & your old man.

Sounds nice that you and your dad watch fights together, I would have loved to do that with my father.

As for the Cotto-Pac fight, you might well be proven right. I seem to have a writers block when I visualise this fight, I know Cotto is a beast, but like your dad I just keep seeing in my head Cotto slow at the weight, & a superfast Manny dismantling him!

Nope. Not one person has mentioned it.

If it's not featured in The Metro newspaper, a broadsheet or on terrestrial TV...the typical man on the street has no idea.
