This just a response to Danny_Rands question: James Toney best wins: Michael Nunn Mike McCallum Reggie Johnson Iran Barkley - past it Jirov Holyfield - shot He also has a few losses in his prime to the likes of Montel Griffin, RJJ, Thadzi Morales best wins: Pacquiao Barrera carlos hernandez - past it jesus chavez Zaragoza Ayala in-jin chi Kevin Kelley - shot McCullough - past it Junior Jones In his prime only ever lost to fellow ATG Barrera. I place MAB roughly on the same placing as Morales.
I think Toney had slightly better competition than MAB or Morales and continued it over a longer sustained period so I'd have him a bit in front.
I'm a Pacquiao fan, and I think Danny_Rand is one of the most biased haters on ESB, but I rank Toney on the same level as Morales and Barrera. I don't rank Jones's win over Toney as highly as Pac's first win over Barrera because Toney was clearly weight-drained and Barrera wasn't, but I don't think it's an outlandish claim by Rand to have Toney above Morales or Barrera.
Not not does Toney have a better resume then both Morales and Barrera, I mean its really not that close, he also was in much better form at the time then either, especially Morales, who Pac beat after he had already been smoked by a lesser fighter. Toney was seen as one of the very best fighters in the world and the favorite against Roy.
I too could see Toney higher ranked although I do rank MAB/Morales heigher. Thats besides the point though, Danny_Rand thinks Toney is head and shoulders above those guys that its laughable for anyone to even think otherwise...hence why he asks "who doesnt Rank Toney above those guys", as if its a given everyone is in agreement. So far, 6-1, the majority is in DISAGREEMENT!
