You know what...ok. You can have that. Yes, Cotto should have been able to finish like a champ, but to say he wasn't hurt...
I agree with this, but I have no problem with the stoppage.. when a guy is taking that much punishment, a fight can always be stopped. And part of it was that I like Cotto a lot, and it was difficult to watch him take that sort of punishment
It was an anticlimactic ending to a fight that started out awesome. But I totally understand the stoppage, Cotto didn't even have time to sit on his punches to land some hail mary KO shot, the jabs that we was still able to land hand no power in them. he was just getting brutalized. Bayless looks like a ref who is really concerned about the fighter's well being. He also didn't count to 10 when Pac KO'd Hatton because Hatton looked terrible. He waved it off (making it a TKO instead of KO) so that the ringside doctors could take a look at Hatton ASAP which was the right thing to do. That was a sickeningly scary shot.
Cotto had a good round 10. That is why they let it go on. Maybe they could have stopped it after 11, but until he was hurt they shouldnt have stopped it, i would have let him finish on his feet unless he got dropped hurt again, at the time of the stoppage cotto wasnt hurt.
I was rooting for Cotto last night, and I have absolutely no problem with the stoppage. Cotto and his corner didn't either. And 2 minutes left on the clock is more than enough time for serious damage to get done.
I agree thaty it should've been stopped in the 9th. Don't know why it wasn't. I think Bayless saw in Pac the same thing I did - Pacquaio had just kicked it up another notch because he did not want to let Cotto finish on his feet - sign of a real competitive ******* that, in a good way of course.
Cotto was brave and deserved to finish the fight... he was moving away from Pacquiao and would have finish the fight on his feet. Bad call from Bayless, it was too late or too soon to stop the fight... Remember that Cotto was critisized for collapsing and surrending in the fight with Margarito... This time, he should have finished the battle...
Cotto was given a chance from round 8 to 12, that's 4 rounds of serious beating at the hands of a serious puncher with Cotto coming out of each round more tired, bleeding more, more cuts and just crushed physically. He gave him a champion's chance many times. Clearly what Cotto was doing late is being active the first minute and a half of the round then going defensive to save energy, Pac and his team knew that and jumped on him the last minute and a half knowing his tactic and know he would be tired and has to apply that tactic. Being hit with a murderous puncher so late in a fight and so cut/tired takes not only out of your career but your LIFE. I was thinking they should have stopped it long ago, Bayless knew that Pac and his team gave him the green light to jump on him in the 12th from start to finish, the first punch Pac landed you knew he was setting him up for serious bombs and Cotto was on the ropes, clearly a sign he's out of it and has nothing left.
i think bayless had given cotto a chance to finish. if cotto backpedalled till the end. unfortunately, pac was about to launch another attack and so bayless waved it off. that's my take on it
Cotto was boxing well off the backfoot in 10th and 11th-didn't sustain that much damage in these rounds. In 12th he came off the back foot and tried to be bit more agressive and was gettin punished-he coulda ran and lasted the distance.Surely a boxer wants to last to the final bell.
